And they apparently caught two of his captors;
should make an example of them, but we're too busy rending our garments over some alleged mistreatment of our own prisoners.

I dunno, sounds like the captors let him go. Or were sleeping. Maybe they got tired of keeping him.

Or were too scared to do anything with that patrol right there. Regardless, it is great news. We sure could use some.

The former hostage Thomas Hamill shakes hands with two U.S. soldiers after his escape, May 3, 2004. Hamill, who escaped from captivity over the weekend, has left Iraq (news - web sites) and is on his way to a military hospital in Germany for medical check-ups, a U.S. military official said Monday. We should not jump into conclusions, first we have to make sure that these two persons are involved. But the probability is not low.

Sounds like they meant to release him. They moved him to an isolated spot and left him unguarded.

He wasn't left unguarded. In fact the troops went back to where Hamill had been held and captured two of his abductors.

They weren't involved, they were just working in fields nearby. How stupid would you have to be to hang around after your captive had escaped? He was left unguarded. If he had been guarded he would have been shot when he broke out of the shack.

They weren't involved, they were just working in fields nearby. So they said.

They bundled him into a Humvee and got him out of the immediate area before treating his arm and offering him food and water. He took the water, but declined the food, saying he had already been fed that morning.Obviously not a hobbit, but still wonderful news!

The best part of this story is they went back and captured the guys who were holding him. Ya got to love it. Welcome home Hamill. You are a hero.

lol....from the article. "and then arrested two men working in the fields nearby."
The article didn't say that the men SAID they were working in fields nearby. It said they WERE working in fields nearby when they were arrested.
If you could read you would know as much about the circumstances as I do. I guess reading comprehension is becoming a lost art.
I think it odd in the extreme that either of you would think that his kidnappers would be hoeing weeds while he had escaped and would presumably bring US Marines back to where he had been held. His kidnappers may have been dumb, but no one is that dumb.

Bortz said it best. Here is a man, who was loosing his farm. He didn't whine, he found work that would pay enough to get out of debt. One of The first things he said when he freed himself was: "I am going back to work".
I don't think he will need to. Donations are flowing in. . . . . .
He looks like the typical American. The type that is your best friend or your worst enemy. Like our Military.
Choice is yours.

Hamill could identify his captors. If the men were just innocently working in the fields and had nothing to do with his abduction, the soldiers wouldn't have bothered to arrest them.
I think it odd in the extreme that either of you would think that his kidnappers would be hoeing weeds while he had escaped and would presumably bring US Marines back to where he had been held.
Unless they weren't aware that he had escaped. There was AK-47 assault rifle abandoned outside the front door, do you think Hamill's kidnappers just walked off and left it there?
His kidnappers may have been dumb, but no one is that dumb.
See above.

They are Iraqis, or at least A-Rabs of some persuasion, and moslems into the bargain. Don't leave too much room for brains, does it. So, yes, they are stupid enough to be out tending vegetables while on duty. Yes.
