"I have a Pentium II 300 mhz with 256 megs ram... will XP help or hinder? I hate this Windows 98." I also have a DELL Dimension XPS D300 Pentium II 300mhz w/ 256MB RAM running Windows 98SE.
I ran the Microsoft test for Windows XP and the test stated that my computer would not run Windows XP. My computer is still running at 66mhz bus speed. It might as well be a 386 or 486 for all that's worth. Plus, it's a DELL.
DELL - Gateway...they're like ribbons and medals: they're interchageable... I will never again buy either brand.

You are at the miniumn specs for XP. I have installed XP on a machine with 72megs of Ram. It took a little while to boot, but the machine ran fine after it booted.
