To: Montfort
The times surrounding the Medici's & some kind of connection with a Moor came to mind, but that wouldn't be enough generations ago. A bride given to at least one of the the Crusaders would add a few hundred years, so more generations, makes it more probable. Course, most European houses tend to trace themselves back to one of Noah's sons, so it's possible there is some kind of earlier connection.
The only royal line I have gone into in any depth is Scandinavian & that one went through Saxony. Later, it reached out & got into England & France. Course that took it throughout the rest of Europe.
There weren't too many records kept for women & children were raised in the faith of their fathers for a whole lot of recorded history.
Your handle makes me have to ask, do you descend from a de Monfort?
To: GoLightly
Yes. I am descended from some Montforts (or de Montforts) in a John Baldwin/Mary Bruen line, but a lot of the old genealogies that people have been relying on to get into certain organizations have been thrown into doubt, so I would need to check the newest scholarship to see if the genealogy stuff I have is still valid.
I just ordered some "Great Migration" genealogy books by Anderson of the NEHGS. I don't much about this stuff, but it stimulated my imagination for a novel I drafted back when I first joined Freerepublic.com. Montfort is the last name of my protagonist.
