In 2000, Aiken ran a horse named Impeachment for third place in the Derby.

At a festival a few days before the race, I approached a woman wearing an Impeachment pin and started talking politics to her.

She looked at me in amazement as I slowly realized she was supporting the horse, not making a statement about the impeachment of the president!

"(Got to like a horse that trains on Guiness)"

LOL that swayed me too. Plus the fact he's grey. ;)

I like Smarty Jones too. So I think my three picks are Lion Heart, Tapit, and Smarty Jones.

Imperialism might win, but I don't have the attachment to him,
and I just enjoy it more when I make my picks based on a personal affection than objective reasoninng. lol

Your pictures on the other thread were beautiful! Great job.

I love seeing the majestic horses AND the hats.

Didn't Smarty Jones win the Arkansas Derby on a sloppy track?

"I would hate to see those beauties get hurt."

Same here. My heart is going to be in my throat for the entire race.

"I slowly realized she was supporting the horse...."

LOL, that's hilarious. I've had a few of those "what in the world are you talking about" moments.

My money is on Imperialism, ridden by my favorite jockey Kent Desormeaux. I'll be watching with my Rebel Yell, on the rocks, in hand.

'Bout time we had a lady trainer win the Derby.

Does anyone remember that match race in the 70's between the filly Ruffian and Forward Pass? If I recall correctly, she was beating him and then shattered her leg. I still feel like I'm going to cry every time I think of that race.

Yes, he won it.... heard that in the pre-pre-pre event coverage this morning... but I don't know the track conditions...

I live him 'cuz I like the sweet old couple that owns him, and he's overcome some tough breaks!

Was his Father a Mudder? ;~D

True! lol

Dressage is my favorite to watch, and I like the lightness and feel of english saddles more than western ones, but it's pretty intense training, and just not as exhilarating.

My husband just came home from golf and reminded me that there were buttons that day that said "Trippi".

Aiken had two horses in the Derby in 2000.

I thought the other buttons were referring to Linda Tripp. LOL That was back before I wore contacts.

The female in the pic with him looks caucazoid (or a Jackson..lol)

It's disgusting he can stroll around and grin shamelessly while breathing....amazingly sad.

Imperialism is trained by the 21-year-old girl, Kristin Mulhall. She has a 26% win record from her stable of 46 horses. That is phenomenal.

I saw a feature on her on ESPN yesterday. She is a true "horse whisperer." Very hands on and knows her horses. Her dad is a trainer and she practically lived in the Santa Anita stables growing up. I think Imperialism might be better than people think.
