More than they did, but not more than they do now. We both usually put in about 12 hours a day at work.

I understand we're all free market capitalists here, but seriously, people are becoming slaves today.

Of course not!

Progress alone dictates that working harder than our elders is not possible.

Working more?

Perhaps for some.

Working harder?

I think not!

Suffering more? No way!

Appreciating the conveniences of life bestowed upon us (by our elders) less than our elders appreciated their conveniences?

Definitely!

You must have a very high seniority number or you don't remember what it was like to earn $10.00/hour or less as a flight instructor.

John Kerry couldn't say it better while giving a campaign speech!

Lest we forget the day's when getting married and having a family wasn't just an option to look at for personal contentment and happiness, it was a way to survive as a family unit for living alone without the conveniences bestowed upon us today would be impossible.

Seniority?

No. for I have always dictated my own contracts for business without placing myself into the ill fated position of paying someone else to do it for me with less than appealing results.

Age and experience? Yes

FYI, I remember what it was like to make $1.00/hr and $1.85/hr as a manager.

$10.00 was somewhere in between what that $1.00/hr and what I make now.

Actually I don't, my dad was an Army attack helicopter pilot, mom was a legal secretary and I live as well or better than they did.

Quality of life, much better. Try living without the microwave or autobrewing coffee maker, or most consumer electronics.

I still have to work in late evenings doing deployments and the occassional weekend, but no, I think I put in less hours per week than they did.

And in inflation adjusted dollars I actually made less than they did but have nicer things (bigger house, nice truck and so forth). Not trying to brag, but if you look at it most people live better than their parents did. And that's what good parents want for their children.

Your title is just a tiny bit misleading...the poll asks if you work more hours than your parents did. It may change a few answers for some.

How many "working" days are reasonable for bikerman to be able to bring home the bacon, and who do you feel would be best suited to make this determination?

I remember my mother having a wringer type washing machine. Mine is less work on me. I still hang my clothes on the line. The work of keeping the home up was much harder back then.

Mr. Greenspan, you have honored me with your reply sir and your "Warlord David" handle is a stealthy one to mask your true identity, however your savvy with financial rhetoric has given you away!.

I will save your handle as to maintain my ability to search for more of your enlightening posts!

Psst, Mr. Greenspan, can you give me any hints as to where I should place my finances? ; )

Follow this up with:

Do you live a better and more comfortable life than your parents because of your "greater input to the economy"?

Perhaps that percentage will decrease.

Follow up with that by the following: do you define your life by the things that you own/borrow from the bank? I had one poor soul brag to me for about an hour about the $40,000+ vehicle he had just "purchased." I asked him how he paid for it and he said that he "put his wife to work."

A divorce waiting to happen as far as I'm concerned.
