Fox News Sunday Plans Response to Nightline 'Stunt'

"Fox News Sunday's" Chris Wallace announced Friday that he's planning to respond to ABC "Nightline" host Ted Koppel's decision to air photos and names of GI's Killed in Iraq, calling Koppel's broadcast "a stunt."

"I think it is such a stunt," Wallace told WRKO-Boston radio host Howie Carr.

"I will just say one thing to all of your listeners," he added. "Watch 'Fox News Sunday' this Sunday because we are going to have our response to Koppel and 'Nightline.'"

Wallace refused to be more specific about his plans for Sunday's show, but told Carr his response would be "a corrective."

"It's not a stunt, it's a corrective. It's what Fox News was invented to be, which is, we're different than the other guys and we're going to give you the other side of the story."

Pressed by Carr, Wallace elaborated just a bit. "We have an announcement we're going to make about Mr. Koppel and 'Nightline' and their show - and our response to it."

Asked if he was "declaring war on Ted Koppel on Sunday morning," Wallace told Carr, "You'll see. Some people may think it's that. . . It's going to make some news."

If Ted Koppel wanted to fair, he should have included soliders who died in Afganistan too.

Could Wallace finally be earning his FoxNews spurs?

Has anyone see the numbers for the Koppel stunt?

My condolences to you upon the loss of your "silent" hero.

As I searched for the remote to change the channel last night when Nightline came on, I was struck by this thought: I had attended our community's annual Relay for Life walk against cancer a few hours before. No one read any cancer victims names, but you could feel their presence. No one made a grand production of showing cancer victims names with their photos on a screen, but we still knew about them. Sure, there were individul photos and names on luminarias that lined the track. But no one had to read off every name for the point to be made- we knew these people had suffered and died at the cruel hands of cancer. We didn't need to be reminded of that in any way. They are silent heroes, in my book. They never craved the spotlight, and certainly wouldn't have wanted it that way. They were just living their lives when tragedy struck. Silent heroes don't need some media whore to publicize their plight for ratings sake to make their stories known. Your friend, in my book, is one of those silent heroes, and I will never forget him, even though I never knew him.

Why is it whenever Tom Daschle sees a consrvative the words "DUMB SUCKER" comes to his mind?

Maybe because, given the Repubs track record, it's true?

Chris Wallace was on Fox and Friends on Thurs or Friday and they were asking him what guests he was going to have on his Sunday show. He seemed a little evasive then, said he didn't have anybody lined up yet but to stay tuned.

Well at least someone in our top eschalons picked up on what was happening in Fallujah and pulled our marines out. How would you feel if your kid had died in Fallujah? "Remember Fallujah".. will become a watch word but it will not bode well for us.

To liberate those damn iraqi, we must kill them. Send in marines and let them kill people from the rooftop of the hospitals.. bomb their city back into the stone age. Many hundreds of Iraqi dead laying in the stadium as a make shift morgue. And now those pictures are all over the middle east. Bombing for peace.. Rescuing these folks.

We did the absolute right thing. Some one figured it out, thank god and send in an Iraqi general. Who is running this show? We oust Saddam and his henchmen from his palaces and ... WE MOVE IN? what does that say to the Iraqi?

Is he really the son of Mike Wallace of 60 minutes?

I got off the phone with my dad and he sounds like he believes all the DNC talking points.

We are so polarized now.. its amazing. I was reading Drudge when Monica's name appeared. I found freerepublic soon after. It seems a long time ago now. We loved to hate Clinton and loved to feel for the trap Linda tripp found herself in. But just as we hated the bombing of Serbia and the TV stations there.. I now hate the bombing of Iraq. I did not want us to go in there.. but we did.

Fallujah was one example of what killing for liberty gets us... bombing for peace.. etc. Charlie Reese says we need a strong defense to protect us from invasion, period. I agree. I'm a libertarian.

Thank you for your very kind and thoughtful words. Actually, I think of him every time I see this:

My friend Don DiFranco worked in the broadcast transmitter room directly under the antenna that was fashioned into an American flag. I will be able to better remember him as I knew him when we one day get confirmation of OBL's demise.

According to the Sat. Wash. comPost, FNS will have former Sen. Dole to discuss the military service of Pres. Bush and Sen. Kerry, and Sens. Joe Biden and Mitch McConnell to assess the turmoil in Iraq.

Sounds awful. Who cares about service in the Viet Nam War anymore? And I can't take Biden. He's creepy and snarky. The fact that they're describng Iraq as "turmoil" gives me a clue as to the side Chis is taking.

I freepmailed her two of three times when she posted something about the DC area, asked here where she lived in the DC area, mentioned to her my nephew lived in Dale City Va., she knew where it was, just small talk.

"Turmoil" means confusion. It implies that the US doesn't have a plan. I think that's wrong.
I think there *is* a plan. Yes, there are unexpected situations, but I don't think it's correct to imply that the US doesn't have a plan to deal with them.
