HOUSTON More than two years after Andrea Yates (search) was found guilty of drowning her children in a bathtub, her attorney appealed Friday in a challenge to Texas insanity law.
The appeal also detailed what defense attorneys said were 19 errors made during the trial, including the court's decision to admit the clothing the children wore at the time of their death and alleged false testimony by a prosecution expert witness.

LOL, Ann is great, she never breaks character in this column.
Here is my fave bit:
"Many women (64 percent) are mature enough to become mothers, but not mature enough to make their own abortion decisions before the choice grows into a teen-ager."
LOL, they better NEVER make it legal to kill your teenagers, the streets would be littered with bodies!

Oh boy, this thread is going to last all weekend.
She needs to be placed in a private psychiatric institution. She needed to be placed in one many years ago. That other woman who killed her kids got away with not guilty by reason of insanity. Andrea Yates' mental problems were well documented, while this woman(what the hell is her name!)said God told her to kill her kids by bashing their heads in with rocks. She was the perfect homeschooling Christian mommy. Her house was immaculate, and she kept herself up. Put up a pic of her and Andrea Yates and tell me who should be in prison.
It doesn't matter. Rumor has it that the antipsychotic drugs are working so well, that Mrs. Yates is constantly trying to kill herself.

Hey, she's pro choice! You can let your kids live or not!
Who cares about the timing?
sarcasm off...

She needs to be placed in a private psychiatric institution. Bull crap. She needs to repent and clean for her own mess. It is not OUR responsability....
Insanity pleas only mean the community at large did too little too late for the kids and is guilty. In that case, I cannot accept the guilt. Thank you.

From the Fox article:
Her husband, Russell Yates, continues working at the Johnson Space Center and is trying to sell the one-story brown brick home where his children were killed.
I can't imagine living in a house where something like this happened. Every time I went past the bathroom, I'd see that little boy fighting for his life.

This is a good reason for the death penalty, which she should have received.

I feel the same way. I am a licensed Realtor in PA & DE, can you imagine having to disclose this crime? And if you know about you, you have to disclose it to your clients! Yikes....

Russell Yates also needs to be in prison. He knew that the doctors had said that his wife should not ever become pregnant again and what does he do, gets her pregnant again. As far as I am concerned he is just as culpable as she is and more so, he know damn well how sick she was!!

can you imagine having to disclose this crime? < shudder >It would creep me out to have to show the house.

She needs execution since she is a demon or is demon possessedI completely understand your point of view. She didn't live by herself. Family members observed her decline, but did nothing. She should be put into an appropriate psychiactric setting. Maybe the "sane" members of her immediate family should be answering some questions.

OK, so even if she is put in a private institution, I pray she never gets out. Not even on a day trip. NEVER!
She's evil, Owl.
Don't get me started what I think of her poor excuse of a husband and former father to his dead kids. He failed them all.

Of course it is not our responsibility for what she did. However, she was shopped around for several years to psychiatrists, and nothing was done. The end result is 4 dead angels.
I don't understand why you think that you should accept any kind of guilt in this particular situation.
How can a mentally ill person actually repent? I have heard that she's on meds, and is now actively trying to kill herself. Is that good enough for you?

Thanks. I was completely horrified when this story broke. Her husband's behavior since the murders made me rethink my original theory.
Instead of throwing verbal bricks at her, we should be praying for her soul. We should also thank God that we are not her.

She's evil, Owl.What she did to her poor babies was surely evil. Is she herself evil? Examine her life. She was everything to everyone.
You'll hear from a lot of people saying there is no such thing as "postpartum psychosis". There is such a thing, and a child left in care with someone suffering from it is in grave danger.
Her husband is an accessory, imo. He knew, as did the rest of the family, that this woman had gone over the edge.
