There's plenty of folks here that would vouch for you in a heartbeat.
As far as being taken in by this guy, what harm is there to err on the side of compassion?

The Pollyanna in me prefers to continue to err in that manner.
(Totally irrelevant factoid: Sorta way back when I was a gullible, over-imaginative kid, somebody told me that I looked like Pollyanna [Hayley Mills]. I knew that my mom, because she was so knocked out from ether, hadn't seen/held me until quite awhile after I was born. Therefore, I "naturally" concluded that I must have been twins and somebody stole MY twin sister Hayley and sold her to a family of actors in England! ... I was disappointed when my movie magazine research uncovered that Hayley is actually some years older than I.) ;)

You're right... nothing wrong with being compassionate.

As far as being taken in by this guy, what harm is there to err on the side of compassion? None. There is no shame in caring for other human beings. People who pull scams need our prayers even more.
That thread was an expression of kindness and caring by beautiful souls on this forum. The person who lied should be ashamed. God will put our prayers to use as He sees fit. They will not be wasted. These episodes will not change my future behavior one bit.
