TEHRAN (Mehr News Agency) -- An Iraqi analyst revealed on Saturday that a Jew, originally Iraqi, who acts as an advisor to the U.S. administrator in Iraq Paul Bremer, has been missioned to draft the Iraqi constitution.
Valid al-Zobeidi told the BBC Arabic service that the draft constitution will be implemented in July.
Bremer has earlier threatened to veto any Iraqi constitution which would consider Islam as the main backbone of the constitution. The Iraqi analyst has refused to disclose the name of the Jew.

He's drafting a neoconstitution.

Does anyone expect that this bit of news is going to help things get better in Iraq?
I don't think so.

Interesting. Will there be a flap over this, like the recent flap over the new Iraqi flag looking too much like the Israeli flag with its blue crescent on a white background?

I'll bet that this story is a lie. The Pentagon would never credit a Jew with writing the Iraqi constitution, even if he did. That would play right into the inate Arab anti-semitism.

Nonsense. According to the Transitional Administrative Law, the constituent assembly will be elected next January by the Iraqi people, and the assembly will draft the permanent Iraqi constitution. The United Nations under Brahimi will oversee this process. Given he has just spoken about the "poisonous" influence of Israeli activities, it seems doubtful that any Jewish person will be involved. If the Iraqis want outside consultants like Fordham's constitutional law professor (whose name escapes me, Feldman?), then that is the Iraqis prerogative.

Oh, I didn't post this because it's true. The evil tone of the article prompted me to do it. It's as if the headline instead read "Convicted Pedophile to Manage Day Care Center." Of course, the Iraqis could do a lot worse than having a Jew write their constitution. A regime change is twenty years late in Iran.

I'm sorry but isnt this a pile of dung droppings?
They already passed a draft Constitution, the IGC did.
And the permanent Constitution wont be drafted until 2005.

Right and I would add that Brahimi said something interesting, that it would be wrong for prior laws like the TAL to 'tie the hands of the assembly' elected in 2005.
SO the whole premise of the article is contrary to fact.
If an Iraqi Jew has helped CPA with legal matters, I'd say, attaboy, but keep it quiet.

Sounds like it's right out of Germany, circa 1938.Yeah, that's a good observation. The Iranian government is trying to keep the pot stirred -- trying to keep their own people (and Iraqis) in turmoil.
I agree with those who think a little regime change in Iran is past due -- this kind of propaganda just makes the point.

There were numerous Jews in what's now Iraq 100 years ago, somewhat tolerated by the Ottoman (Turkish) authorities. Their ancestors lived there since before Muhammad or even Jesus.
There are several very old Jewish communities in India, and one of those communities is called the Baghdadi. Guess where their ancestors were from?
I seriously doubt that there can any truth to this story of an unnamed Jew. But who exactly is a native, Kimosabe?
