Rush was RUDE today!!!!!!
Rush Limbaugh | 4/29/04 | myself

Posted on 04/29/2004 11:58:44 AM PDT by pollywog

I am SO ANGRY at Rush Limbaugh right now!! In his last segment he really bashed and basically made fun of people who have Autism or Asperger's Syndrome. He apparently has not done " his homework" on this one.He read from a article, but I didn't hear who had written it. My granddaughter and husband both suffer from Aspergers. It has been a very difficult journey for our daughter and son in law. Rush will get LOTS of angry emails concerning this!!!

Rush is brilliant when it comes to politics and I usually enjoy his show.

Agreed!

Rush spends his life ridiculing stupid people (aka Liberals) and stupidity is a genetic defect. "Stupidity Syndrome"?

Isn't Aspergers what they think Einstein and Warhol had?

Thank you, Mort.

We stuck to our guns for the clinicians to give us the answer. Cussedness in the face of the bureaucracy paid off.

To further compound the problem, inattention is often a sign of other problems, depression, anxiety, psychosis, impulsive disorders. And ADHD has a high comorbidity with behavior problems, depression and anxiety. So while some kids with ADHD are pretty simple and clear cut in diagnosis and respond to medication predictably, others do not. A clear cut good response to stimulants without having any stimulation is a pretty good indicator of ADHD. Other kids without adhd find stimulants intolerable.

. Saying the name of the syndrome over and over to make it sound like "a**-burger"

If you say it over and over many times, it has to sound this way. Rush didn't name the darn thing!

yeah, that is the interesting thing. You can do things that would drive some of us nuts.

Heh, and vice versa. I couldn't stand a management job, for example. Thanks for the encouragement.

I have a lot of medical professionals (not your status quo types I might add) in my different spheres and would be happy to point you to the most, IMO, efficacious and unfiltered information you could care to study.

I would say that 15 years as a pediatric RN and 3+ years working in a psychiatric hospital prior to my RN have given me enough experience and knowledge to comment on ADD/ADHD. In addition to my professional experience and knowledge, I also "have a lot of medical professionals in my different spheres" (including working with a Neurodevelopmental Pediatrician-specialist in autism). If you see my previous post on this thread, I did state that ADD/ADHD is definitely over diagnosed, but I also believe there are children and adults that can legitimately be diagnosed with it. There are physicians out there that will take the word of the parent/teacher that the child is hyperactive, and place the child on meds (that's bad), and there are other's that take a thorough history and observe the child over the course of several visits, to make the diagnosis (better).

From the way polliwog describes this disease, I have never met a cajun that didn't have it-how come you're knocking it?

Cajuns are out going, Cajuns are loud, Cajuns are funny and friendly and full of life, cajuns never meet a stranger. What's wrong with that?

yes, he had a long history and some of it sounded like asbergers which sort of overlaps at times with other illnesses. I think he deteriorated in college and went crazy. Sad thing, he was a smart guy.

make sure the get plenty of sleep (8.5 - 9.25 hours a night) and give them Omega-3 (fish oil) supplements.

I'm not familiar with the Omega-3 supplements (I don't discount it; I'm just not familiar with it as a treatment), but I agree that a good night's sleep can be beneficial for ADHD as well as many other things.

It's on the very, very mild end of the autism spectrum.

Bingo. Autism is a spectrum disorder. And Asperger's is part of that spectrum.

Of course, because it isn't visible, it isn't real to some FReepers.

What disease? Do have I have disease? Do tell, I want a disease. Preferably one that causes weight loss and hair curling. I do suspect I have ADHD but am well compensated. You ought to see me multitask and do ten things at once. And I can't sit still, never could. And was in trouble in school for talking all the time. And flit from one subject to another.

Isn't Aspergers what they think Einstein and Warhol had?

"They"??? Einstein, Warhol, et al. are conveniently dead, and so can be drafted into any cause an activist desires, without reference to facts, logic, or the unavailability of the subject for proper clinical diagnosis. "They", to whom you refer, remind me of the aggressive sexual perverts who want to convince us that President Lincoln was a pervert just like them. Let's have none of such nonsense.

It's very easy to poke fun at kids with these disabilities

Hannity doesn't "poke fun at kids with these disabilities."

He thinks ADD is overdiagnosed; and, when diagnosed, overmedicated.

I place "sugar makes you hyper" in the same catagory as "put your hat on before you go out, or else you'll catch a cold" (colds come from an infection with a cold virus; viruses can't enter the body through hair follicles, so a hat won't help). From a nutritional point of view, sugar is just a bunch of empty calories. It's wise to limit sugar, but too much will not make you "hyper".
