Rush was RUDE today!!!!!!
Rush Limbaugh | 4/29/04 | myself

Posted on 04/29/2004 11:58:44 AM PDT by pollywog

I am SO ANGRY at Rush Limbaugh right now!! In his last segment he really bashed and basically made fun of people who have Autism or Asperger's Syndrome. He apparently has not done " his homework" on this one.He read from a article, but I didn't hear who had written it. My granddaughter and husband both suffer from Aspergers. It has been a very difficult journey for our daughter and son in law. Rush will get LOTS of angry emails concerning this!!!

If Jenny is cool, she would avoid Asberger's kids growing up. That happens. The cool kids reject them. Sad thing. They aren't just "wacky" off beat kids, they are truly having incredible difficulty as if they are in a foreign country when among normal kids. They speak a different emotional language.

Sounds like my daughter too, but she has brain damage. She manages, but we'll see what the future holds.

Thank you Arrowhead1952 for listening and giving me your view. Maybe I am just being overly sensitive , but I took it that he was poking fun at Aspergers.

The key to a diagnosis of Asperger's (as with all clinical diagnoses) is that the disorder causes "clinically significant impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning" (DSM-IV). Typically, behavioral (or cognitive-behavioral) therapy, along with diligent help from parents and teachers, can greatly improve the situation.

Below is a list of Asperger Syndrome characteristics:
socially awkward and clumsy in relations with other children and/or adults

naive and gullible

often unaware of others' feelings

unable to carry on a "give and take" conversation

easily upset by changes in routines and transitions

literal in speech and understanding

overly sensitive to loud sounds, lights or odors

fixated on one subject or object

physically awkward in sports

Sounds like a typical engineer.

I tell people to pretend that my daughter is an English As A Second Language Person.

It helps, and they are far more understanding of her.

yep, engineers and asbergers would go nicely together. Altho they have more OCD I do believe. Astronomers and asbergers go well together. Astrophysicists too maybe.

Well, sometimes you can't see a real disability. I think it's best for the doctors to diagnos the problem.

You can't tell by looking at my daughter that she has brain damage. However, if I showed you her MRI then even you'd be able to see her damage.

I've had people call her a brat when she was having tantrums. I've had people call her stupid when she didn't talk.

I've learned to not judge other people.

I believe Rush is in the middle of a pending, nasty divorce.

Marta is very rarely mentioned lately, and many of his comments concerning women have been laced with venom.

I do believe you have hit on it. I have noticed kids lately are far less rejecting of their peers who have problems than in my generation.

Asperger's Syndrome can cause serious problems. A person who is unable to understand body language and unspoken cues has a great deal of trouble getting along in society.

Doesn't that represent just about every child in existence?

No, it doesn't, but hey...FR is just full of armchair psychologists, neurologists, pastors, etc.

For what it's worth, there are two methods of diagnosing ADD. First, and this is the "usual" method, is the behavioral diagnosis. This happens when the liberal teacher decides he or she can't handle an active child and demands that the child be subjected to drugging to prevent further disruption of the teacher's train of thought.

Second, there is a clinical test which measures the 'cortical slowing' in a child (or adult). This measurement, which quantifies the ability of the person to react to specific stimulus within a controlled background of non-related stimuli, has been proven to show that about 50% of behavioral diagnoses are wrong.

Let me say that again... 1/2 of all behavioral diagnoses of ADD are false. It is because of this huge percentage of misdiagnoses that ADD has become the disbelieved affliction it is today. The misdiagnosed children do not react to pharmaceutical, nutritional, or other intervention by improving the root issue - which is a behavioral problem. Clinically diagnosed kids do react to these therapies more positively, because the therapies do affect the root cause of their issue - being a dopaminergic system deficiency in their frontal lobe.

I wasnt't giving him an excuse and of course he is responsible for his crimes but he had many of the symtoms listed for Asbergers. I read about him and he had social problems way before college.

You know I have a degree in computer science, and I have a daughter that is disabled (brain damage). I don't really care to have people put being an engineer in the same league as having a real disablity.

Maybe I am just being overly sensitive , but I took it that he was poking fun at Aspergers.

He was looking for how the disease was named - I guess he was searching the net and he started saying Aspergers over and over. He finally stopped when he realized it started to sound like @$$burgers and sort of fussed at himself for doing so.

He said something to the effect of, "I better watch how I say this. Some people may think I am saying something else."
