Dems Want Overtime Pay Rules Killed
Wednesday, April 28, 2004
WASHINGTON Labor Secretary Elaine Chao told Congress on Wednesday that new overtime regulations would strengthen "protection for more American workers that ever before," but a former federal investigator countered that the rules would subtly undermine eligibility of nursery school teachers, nurses and others.
Appearing before a House committee, Chao said the regulations would mean guaranteed overtime protection for 1.3 million salaried workers who earn $455 a week or less. "They are predominantly married with less than a college degree and live in the South," she said.
Other workers earning up to $100,000 also will benefit, she said, adding that the first overhaul in federal overtime rules in more than a half century would sweep away confusion that has led to a rash of lawsuits.

But Democrats argue that the proposal would disadvantage millions of workers earning between $23,660 and $100,000.Aren't these the very same RATS who get to vote on their OWN pay raise? I'm all for giving us common workers the same option...

I am for the revision of these laws. My employer because of the job I do refuse to put me on hourly because it would cost them too much.
If they were able to pay me hourly without a overtime rate they would be able to offer more flexibility in their compensation.
I think this will be a good deal in the future for all. Also, this means more jobs and a more competitive US when trying to keep businesses located in the US.

On the contrary, they now have it set up that they get their raises automatically if they DON'T vote to stop it.

They can't tax what we don't earn. It's that simple.

I vote Republican and I am very glad that the Republicans got their asses collectively handed to them in the recent Senate vote on overtime rules.
Bush's policy was a disaster. Yes a disaster.
Via his policy blue collar workers could collect overtime but white collar workers couldn't.
Threatened to lose him the vote of any white collar worker in the country.
A completely idiotic policy.
Chao may be Asian, but that doesn't mean she isn't an idiot.

What has Bush done for the white collar worker?
Tried to take away their overtime here.
And with the national do not call list he jeopardized most sales jobs in the country while the manufacturing jobs have been shifting overseas.
The Bush team insitutes economic policies that are worthy of his public image.
Granted I realize he is smart and not stupid, but the economic policies these guys endorse other than the tax cut, make little sense.
And even the tax cut should have gone further. Should have gone for no taxes on dividends as the money has already been taxed. No double taxation.
Bush is a watered down Republican who would be a good President economically if the Liberals were right on everything.
