Let them forever be exposed to the world as horrible AND stupid people, plus they need the book thrown at them!

What is even more stupid are the folks on FR who think that there is any mileage in defending these people. The clearest message we can send about what kind of country WE are is for every publicly spirited citizen to denounce this behavior in the strongets possible way.

One of these folks was a reservist who in his civilian job is a corrections officer. Boy if he didn't know what kind of a prison system do we have?

releasing of these pics will get American soldiers killed.

We live in a world where the going in assumption has to be that every negative will hit the airwaves in 24 hrs. Instead of trying the typical liberal democrat cover-up mode why don't you try the outraged citizen this does not represent my country mode.

They did not just break regulations. They brought dishonor upon the U.S. Military.

Its about time someone stood up for the American GI

I am a retired senior officer. Which GI do you want me to stand up for. The professional soldier trying to do his duty for country and flag, or these skylarking sadistic bastards who reflect discredit upon my country. By defending what they did you sully the reputation of every serving professional soldier and sailor and encourage behavior that is going to get more Americans killed.

This is dangerous business and amateurs and arm-chair generals are not wanted.

It's a betrayal of their fellow soldiers

As I said, I am a retired senior officer. At the end of the day the condcut of My military can stand up to full scrutiny in daylight. Rooting out despicable behavior, even in public, is a service to the kind of military that I believe we have. However made these pictures available so that this could come to light and so that the problems could be corrected has done MY military a service.

All of them.

Even those who screw up.

Of course, you're right about very public prosecution of the prison guards. We need to do that, and pronto, and make sure the rest of the world knows about it.

In the back of my mind, though ... I'm contrasting the photo's of the Iraqi POW's with the guys hanging from the bridge in Fallujah, and the Italian who was shot in the head, and American soldiers killed by roadside bombs, etc. I feel the real atrocities committed against coalition forces and contractors are alot less publicized than the behavior of a few US prison guards.

But ... humiliation of captives is against Geneva convention, and we are who we are, and we need to stick by our agreements. Those few prison guards have dishonored the rest of our military, and given anti coalition forces a propaganda gun to shoot straight at us.

Those guards need to be prosecuted ... quickly, firmly and very, very publically.

i stumbled on this forum while browsing a search engine. i am a vet. a disabled one. i served in the middle east. i sweat blood for my country. once a Marine always a Marine.

that being said... leave bush alone. its not his fault. you cant blame the president for the actions of a few. the reservists have no business guarding anything.

active duty military police trained as prison guards are the only ones that should hold those positions. they have more hours of prisoner handling training in a year than any reservist could get in 10 life times.

and as far as the "inhumane treatment" of those prisoners... lets talk about how the iraqi military likes to degrade, demean, demoralize, and break the spirit of the men they capture. male dominance is a huge factor in the treatment of their POWs. they break your spirit by "making you female". this includes rape. usually multiple rapes. and with a variety of objects.

i cant say that i saw this personally, but was briefed to me in a pre insertion briefing with my intel officer a few years back:

male POWs have been recently found dead with glass Coca Cola bottles found shoved in their anus... the bottles are usually broken... it is believed the bottles were inserted during interrogation and broken when the interrogation was over... regardless of any information given.

tell me again how i should feel bad for someone getting their picture taken.........
