I was on assignment in South America 5 years ago on a mission that required protection by a squad of 6 Seals. We had disembarked from our helo near a small village. We were told that there were hostiles in the village. When I asked how many, we were told "about 100" armed trafficantes. The Seals were supremely unperturbed. When I asked their squad leader why, he simply told me, "we have them outgunned and outnumbered". The concept of "2,000 fighters" can be daunting to many civilians, but I can tell you from my experience, the Marines on station are more concerned about where to put the Iraqi bodies than the live fighters.

Simply amazing! I have been reading some accounts of SEALS in Vietnam and the heroism is actually daunting. They never leave a man behind and really battle the odds. Pure guts and from what I've read, compassion.
