A Council Bluffs, Iowa, man learned the hard way don't mess with the city's black squirrels.
ABilly G. Cates, 18, was fined $325 last Tuesday for letting loose his dog "with the intent to annoy, worry, maim, injure or kill the squirrel," according to the Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil and the Omaha World-Herald.

"with the intent to annoy, worry, maim, injure or kill the squirrel," In his defense, squirrel witnesses stated that the victim was only 'mildly concerned'.

I let my old Sheltie out the door every day saying "Go get "em" as she runs towards the squirrels.
She will never, ever get one,but she enjoys the chase.

My dog loves to go after squirrels...and the squirrels love the game. She has killed one, knocked one off a tree and chased hundreds. What do they expect....mocking her from the tree like that? They make a laughing noise & seem to know just how close they can get to her....

My Lab caught her first squirrel Saturday (she's chased hundreds too.)
She was so proud she was grinning from ear to ear.
Fortunately I was able to negotiate a market price for the squirrel.
Two AvoDerm Lamb and Rice Crunchy Biscuits is the current rate of exchange.

Hahahaha.
Mine seemed a bit annoyed that the dead squirrel stopped playing. It only took one bite and no blood was showing. She must have broke its back.
She has also killed 2 mice....maybe she is part cat.

Squirrel in gravy and dumplings? Can't wait.
My mother used to tell the story about when she married my dad and they moved from Appalachian NC to a snooty neighborhood in CA. Her new friends kept running her down for not knowing a lot of fancy meals. She invited them over for squirrel and dumplings. She had some silver nut crackers there and showed them the proper etiquette for opening the little skulls.
She did something similar with cows tongue. They refused to believe they were eating a tongue canape. Tongue should be tougher than this.

My dobe doesn't even come close to catching them, though not from lack of trying. I've always thought squirrels were fast, until I saw a cat stalk one, and surprise it. Man, that squirrel lit the afterburners and let out what I thought was a howl too. The cat was just as surprised as I was.

Y'know, when Salty mentioned Council Bluffs, Iowa as a vacation hot spot, I was doubtful. Now I know . . . the Boston has an ulterior motive.
