America's Military Says It Best: We Rushed To War Without Fully Equipping Our Troops
John Kerry For President ^

For Immediate Release
While the Presidents campaign focuses on smearing John Kerrys patriotism, the head of the US Army Forces Command in Iraq, Larry Ellis, wrote to Army Chief of Staff General Schoomaker today to complain that the military went into Iraq ill-equipped and specifically said that Humvees are not providing enough protection to US troops.
This memo is just the latest example of this Administration's continuing disregard for the men and women who put their lives on the line every day in Iraq. The Bush White House went to war without being prepared and it has got to devote itself to making sure that the troops in Iraq have the equipment they need to win the peace. John Kerry knows what it is like to fight in war and will make sure American soldiers are protected as much as possible when they go into battle. The American militarys men and women deserve nothing less when they are in harms way.
In his memo, Ellis wrote that Commanders in the field are reporting to me that the Up-Armored High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeling Vehicle (HMMWV) is not providing the solution the army hopes to achieve. It is imperative that the Army accelerates the production of Stryker vehicles to support current operations
even though we are at war some Army members and agencies are still in a peacetime posture
If our actions
impede our ability to train, equip, or organize our soldiers for combat, then we fail the soldier and our nation.

You hit the nail on the head!! It got out of there as soon as he could. How many guys stayed in after being shot up a few times. I'm now inclined to believe that he had two schrapnel wounds from the same incident" and got a purple heart for each...i.e., the truth is some where between.

That website is quite funny.
But this guy uses the F word on the front page of his website, so of *course* he'll be a John *&F*&F Kerry voter. With JF KErry, our civilization can fall but we will be well-stocked with expletives to enjoy The Fall ...

My memory must be getting wonky. I seem to recall spending a year plus getting everything into position for Iraq.

John Kerry. You don't want to know what a lot of the Mothers of America think of you. I have fished objects out of my garbage disposer that warrant a higher regard.

Did we ever get into a war the we were really prepared for?No. The first Gulf War would be pretty close, but then again some units actually moved to fast once the shooting started, and outran their logistics plan. That may not count though.
The problem with the ongoing war has less to do with preparation and more to do with execution - I don't think the Iraqis every really felt like we defeated them. We took much of their military/government infrastructure down to the ground, and decapitated the government, but it was like one day they were controlled by Saddam, the next by us. They didn't go through the kind of conditions that the Germans or Japanese did in WWII. There were too many units that just faded back into the woodwork as well.
Mind you, I'm not advocating that we do to Iraq what we did to Germany or Japan in WWII - the current war can't even compare to that. It's because our weapons and troops are so damn good (precise, much more lethal, requiring less target follow-ups, etc.), that we left most civilian areas and infrastructure intact. I really think they never felt defeated, but that's my opinion, and I am probably in the minority on thinking that.

You have a good point. How much of this statement is truth and how much is the "Stryker Mafia" supporting its cause?
Is Stryker, I would assume still in low production, the answer? How about an up armored USMC LAV. Not nearly as big as the Stryker, but in the standard configurations has more firepower. I don't know their relative armor levels, but the LAV is small enough for city streets and the 25mm cannon is sweet.

And this is suppose to help a guy who voted REPEATEDLY to cut Military spending? If, and I doubt that they did, the Military went into Iraq underprepared, it is the hundred of votes John Kerry cast gutting military spending during the 1990s that are to blame.

What Kerry meant to say:
This memo is just the latest example of this Administration's continuing disregard struggle to undo Clinton-era neglect for the men and women who put their lives on the line every day in Iraq.
The Bush White House went was forced to go to war without being prepared because of Clinton-era policies backed by senator Kerry and it has got to devote itself to play catch-up making sure that the troops in Iraq have the equipment they need to win the peace.
John Kerry knows what it is like to fight in war drive a boat and will make sure American soldiers are protected as much as possible when they go into battle become fodder for terrorists while he grovels before the U.N. The American militarys men and women deserve nothing less but slander when they are in harms way.
