This story is getting even more interesting. The linked article on the news website says the eyewitness overheard the pilot on the cellphone and that he heard him say he was flying at 50,000 feet? I know it was established that birds fly at lower elevations but do they go that high?

saw flames out the back of the plane and that the plane came apart.
No way a bird did this. If in fact a bird did hit the plane unless it went into the motor (which can't happen on an F-15 or 16) it only kills the bird. Most commerical flight's don't even slow down for a bird.
Something else happened. I think it is funny he called his command and told them he think he flew into a flock of birds.RITFLOL

Birds can't fly at 50,000 feet, I'm sure that's not possible.
