WASHINGTON (CNN) -- One of President Bush's closest confidants challenged Sen. John Kerry on Sunday to further explain comments he made in 1971 that he participated in "atrocities" in Vietnam.
The presumptive Democratic nominee has since said that he regrets using such language.

My bet is that Kerry made the whole "atrocities" story up. .....just flat-out lied.

"As someone whose father was over there fighting, I don't appreciate that. I resent that. I know my father was not guilty of any atrocities, and I really find that that's an irresponsible kind of charge to make." Wow I didn't know her father served in Vietnam. We need Karen Hughes out there every time Kerry brings up Vietnam. GO KAREN GO!! I am so glad she is back on Bush's Campaign.

I like Karen Hughes because, sadly, she is one of the few republicans who can rhetorically walk and chew gum at the same time. In a few minutes she was able to articulate the appropriate points and questions, including logical alternatives. Now if only about 50 Repubican Senators, a couple hundred congresspeople, and 50 or so governors could do that ...

I'm in a hurry right now, and don't have time to surf. But can anyone point me to transcripts of this mornings "Good morning America" show? I heard Charlie Gibson did a great job questioning Kerry!
Wish I hadn't missed the show. Transcripts anyone?

That just it, though. Either he lied in his Congressional testimony or he committed the atrocities he admitted to.
I'd sure love to hear him answer the question...

Nice post. Let me see if I've got it straight as seen from from Kerry campaign point of view. When Kerry smears whole groups of Vietnam veterans as war criminals who have committed atrocities and is asked about his very own words, he is the one being smeared. And, if pressed about his votes and actions as a senator, he is being attacked. Have I left anything out??

Ain't that the truth. The dems have been giving us boat loads of ammo for 40 years and we have been afraid to use it against them. Wouldn't you know it would take a gentler gender to get the job done.

who have had to handle persistent questions about the president's National Guard service Yes, and why doesn't CNN report the truth (never mind I know why). Bush was not AWOL...he showed up in Alabama and performed the required number of hours.
There's nothing there...they keep trying to equate it with Kerry.
