But the new national flag, presented Monday after an artistic competition sponsored by the Iraqi Governing Council, appears to have met with widespread public disapproval here...

Some of us still believe W when he says that we are there for the betterment of the Iraqi people, rather than securing the oil for our SUVs or protecting the Israelis. But now our hand-picked Governing Council designs and decrees a new flag or Iraq, which looks stupid, ignores history and loudly tells the people there that they are not ever going to be in charge of their own land.

How does it exactly "ignore" history and the flag was DESIGNED by Iraqis themselves.

Sounds good to me.
Like the day they toppled that big Sadman statue, that guy pulled the old flag out of his shirt and handed it up to the soldiers on the ladder.
Perfect image, go back to the old flag.

We should simply give them this flag --
...a US flag with 51 stars.

I don't want to register at WA POST to read the full article. Could someone explain just who is saying Iraqis are insulted by the new flag and what is the basis of the so-called insult?

If we are there to get cheap gas, to steal their oil; can you explain why we are presently enjoying the most expensive oil and fuel costs that we have ever known?

Personally, I think this is a very dumb idea...now.
Any changes in the Iraqi flag could and should wait until the changeover to Iraqi sovereignty.

That flag needs some green in it. That's probably the problem.

Some of us still believeYou really need to change your M.O. so it smells less like B.O. and gives away the fact that you're an ass-O.
