Please don't flame me too much for this comment. There are very few states where the residents have an attitude about where they're from. New York (thanks to New York City), New Jersey, and Texas. The difference is Texas wears their attitude on their sleeve. Many, if not all states have pride, but Texas is a whole different animal.

A friend at work from Indiana PCSed here to San Antonio a number of years back with the Army. His two youngest were born here. When you ask the next youngest (youngest is a newborn) where he was born he says TEXAS. No, what city? TEXAS. When he goes to visit others he makes sure he wants reassurance he hadn't left TEXAS.

I love my Texas attitude.

I was down in your neck of "God's Country" a few weeks ago. I was at Thunder Ranch for a week of Urban Rifle. Go hunting down around Leaky every year as well. It's a beautiful part of the State.

Look at my profile....it has not changed since I joined FR. I was not born in Texas, but I have lived here since nineteen ought and fifty eight....so that makes me a Texan...I didn't "come" to Texas from somewhere else, I came home where I ought to have been born. My children and grandchildren are all native Texans...born in Austin and Dallas.....

I actually have said the same things about Texas that Bum said...specifically about people of other countries knowing exactly where Texas is....everyone in the World knows where TEXAS is....no doubts or ignorance of geography.

Anywhere you go in the world, the people inevitably be friendly when they hear you're from TEXAS. It's God's Country! I'm lookin' out right now at the river lined with big ol' pecan trees and fields of wildflowers, with birds singing, the ocassional bellow of a cow, and a green lizard crawling a post.

I live just down the road a piece from Cisco - in Merkel. Do you still live in Cisco? My oldest son (now 28) went his first two years to CJC, was in the Wrangler Band, stage band, and special ensemble. While he was there, the band got to go to Hawaii to represent Texas!! CJC was an excellent school for him to begin college. He went on to get his Master's at Texas Tech!!

Nothing you said deserves flaming. You did good. BTW, I'm a native New Yorker (Brooklyn) but when asked "where's Home" it's TEXAS. After all I've lived here 30 years... and that's a huge part of my life. :-)
