Statements by U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) and U.S. Rep. Jim Nussle (R-IA)
George W. Bush ^ | April 25, 2004

Washington, DC -- U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) and U.S. Rep. Jim Nussle (R-IA) issued the following statements regarding Sen. John Kerry’s visit to Iowa:

"President Bush responded to the attacks of September 11th with decisive action. He said that we would fight the war on terrorism on our enemy's soil instead of our own. The war on terrorism cannot be won by indecision and timidity. We can count on President Bush to provide courageous and bold leadership. In contrast, John Kerry's campaign offers only ambiguity. He provides neither solutions nor strategies when it comes to fighting terrorism. Americans can't risk electing a President who provides no clear leadership in dealing with terrorism," said Grassley.

"John Kerry’s agenda for higher taxes and more spending stands in stark contrast to President Bush's pro-growth policies, which reduced income tax bills for over 1 million taxpayers in Iowa. Kerry has voted for higher taxes at least 350 times and his proposal for $1.9 trillion in new government spending would destroy Iowa jobs. Kerry's spending plan doesn't add up, and it will mean higher taxes for every Iowan," Nussle said.

He provides neither solutions nor strategies when it comes to ...anything.

The definition of 'nuanced'.

I like Bush a lot, but this endorsement from Senator Grassley bothers me a lot. He's simply not a trustworthy person. The RNC would be well-advised to keep him out of the election this year!

You have to admit this is a good reply to Kerry.

In what way do you not see Sen. Grassley as trustworthy? As an Iowan, I find he is only about a million times better than our other senator, Tom Harkin. Not saying Grassley is perfect, so I'd be interested in your reasons for making such a statement.

On the contrary. Grassley has been my Senator for nearly a quarter of a century, and he is extremely solid and dependable. He's not perfect on every issue, but if you stand around waiting for a candidate who agrees with you on everything, you are going to have a very long wait. Grassley is also well-respected, both in Washington and in Iowa. His words will have an impact among independents here.

It was Grassley who with one question at the 9/11 hearings hit the jackpot.
Grassley questioned Clarke that should all of Clarke's recommendations have been effected the day after he informed the Bush administration if 9/11 could have beeen prevented?
The answer was "no" and still remains one of the best kept secrets of our media.
Grassly, very precise to the point.

Senator Grassley was big goombahs with Carla Corcoran, former Postal Service Inspector General while she was smacking around the merit pay system, but as soon as she got that out of the way, Grassley turned on her.

She was eventually fired for gross incompetence and corruption.

Seems to me she was "both" while she was Grassley's buddy, and he would necessarily be as bad as her.

Like I said, he's simply not a trustworthy person and does not have the interests of the American people at heart.

Grassley is not a member of the 9/11 Commission. You must be thinking of someone else.

I see you made these same charges a year or so ago, but when asked for specifics you failed to respond. Here's the old thread:

That was Sec. Lehman. Sen. Grassley isn't on the 9/11 Committee.

Brandon, looking at the old thread I'm not exactly sure what you are pointing to.

Was it my suggestion that there was an overly cozy relationship between Grassly and Carla?

I think it's inescapable ~ we had a one-two punch going with Grassley misusing and misrepresenting Carla's report on the USPS merit pay system for EAS employees. Then, after USPS management agreed to eliminate the merit pay system, we found Grassley over there smacking around Carla herself for reports that she was incompetent and corrupt.

She was ultimately FIRED by the United States Postal Service Board of Governors!

We have heard nothing more from Grassley regarding what is or is not going on at USPS.

CONCLUSION: Carla and the Senator had a "relationship" which was very important to them, and it was whatever was going on in that "relationship" that drove Grassley's interests in USPS.

So, do you want more examples, or what? Grassley managed to get my attention amd I'm not likely to forget what it looks like he was up to. You can believe him to be a total American patriot, but based on the evidence he looks like just another smitten Senator all too ready to sell his country down the river for a few smiles from a woman.

You guys will simply have to prove that he NEVER had any involvement with Carla, and I don't think you can do that.

Sorry, go back and take Logic 101. You're the one who made the claim; you're the one who has to provide the evidence.

I won't be holding my breath.

I don't know about your Carla stuff, but Grassley lost a lot of points with me when he championed that idiotic "Iowa Child Project," or whatever they're calling the indoor rain forest monstrosity that's going to be built near Coralville.
