DENVER (AP) - Democrats are furious about a statement by Republicans saying that comparing one of their candidates to presidential candidate John Kerry would be worse than comparing someone to the Ku Klux Klan.
The dispute started when The New York Times inadvertently published a photo of Republican Senate candidate Pete Coors above a story about a KKK member who murdered a black sharecropper. The Times published a correction Saturday.
Cinamon Watson, spokeswoman for Coors, said the error was "so outrageous it's kind of funny. It could have been worse. Pete could have been identified as John Kerry."
Chris Gates, chairman of the Colorado Democratic Party, demanded an apology. He said Democrats are "out there campaigning positively on the issues, and the Republicans can't help but resort to the lowest level of insult and name-calling."
Kerry spokesman Phil Singer said the comment was "the kind of thing people hate about politics."
Coors, head of the Coors brewing empire, is seeking the Republican nomination to fill the seat being vacated by Republican Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, who is retiring.

Democrats are hopeless. They are never going to make it as people.
They are a completely different species, IMHO. Maybe even in some cases, a sub-species.

Watson should take it back ... explain that she inadvertantly used the wrong name with the story ... and in the same breath state that she meant to say "Robert Byrd"

Uuhhh, gimme an example of this "positive" campaigning, Chris.
Chris has a point.
They are positive that Bush wasn't elected President.
They are positive Bush knew the 9/11 attacks were going to happen.
They are positive Bush was a deserter during the Vietnam War.
They are positive Bush was AWOL during the Vietnam War.
They are postive Bush and Cheney are getting all the Iraqi oil money themselves.
They are positive this is the worst economy since the Great Depression.
They are positive there are no jobs in this economy.
They are positive Bush made a secret deal with OPEC to lower gas prices.
They are positive Bush is responsible for high gas prices.
They are positive Bush is hurting the environment by keeping gas prices artificially low.
They are positive Bush had no plan when he invaded peace-loving Iraq.
They are positive Bush made war plans to invade Iraq the first day he was in the White House.

From Ideablog ( http://busmovie.typepad.com/ideoblog/2004/04/kerry_konnects_.html ):
Meanwhile in politics, there's a NY Times story today about John Kerry's photo-op with Hillary Clinton reading Pete Seeger's Abiyoyo to ten 4 and 5 year olds at a Head Start program at Columbus and 108th in Manhattan. In the story, an African boy and his father make people disappear by going "zoop" with a magic wand.
Clinton had to remind Kerry to show the kids the pictures in the book. But Kerry had his own ideas how to connect: "I could go zoop! and Republicans would disappear," he told the kids.
Tell me again about bad taste in political "humor".

Only liberal NYorkers would have the nerve to smear someone, then complain when the victim takes the upper hand.
Nothing surprises me about these people anymore.

He said Democrats are "out there campaigning positively on the issues, and the Republicans can't help but resort to the lowest level of insult and name-calling." <Yeah right. How about the advert about taking Rummy to a wall and "pulling the trigger." The Demos talk about asassinating Cabinet Members and are whining about this?

The way to test this is to see if human-Democrat mating would produce offspring. Unfortunately, if such couplings prove to be even occasionally fertile, the offspring would be HALF DEMOCRAT. We can't risk it. Not even in the holy name of Science.

when they can't take a joke. Its no joke, Its the truth.
At least the KKK didn't lie about their war record and about the conduct of the soldiers in Vietnam.

Hard to say. You know how it is with New York Times editors and puppies -- they aren't paper trained.

I think it was a very funny, off the cuff comment. Dems have a wierd concept of the world when they can't take a joke. Is there a more humorless bunch than the left? They hate everyone and everything, it seems.

Are you suggesting (gasp) they should be segregated from real humans to prevent this abomination?
(a subtle attempt at humor.)
