DENVER (AP) - Democrats are furious about a statement by Republicans saying that comparing one of their candidates to presidential candidate John Kerry would be worse than comparing someone to the Ku Klux Klan.
The dispute started when The New York Times inadvertently published a photo of Republican Senate candidate Pete Coors above a story about a KKK member who murdered a black sharecropper. The Times published a correction Saturday.
Cinamon Watson, spokeswoman for Coors, said the error was "so outrageous it's kind of funny. It could have been worse. Pete could have been identified as John Kerry."
Chris Gates, chairman of the Colorado Democratic Party, demanded an apology. He said Democrats are "out there campaigning positively on the issues, and the Republicans can't help but resort to the lowest level of insult and name-calling."
Kerry spokesman Phil Singer said the comment was "the kind of thing people hate about politics."
Coors, head of the Coors brewing empire, is seeking the Republican nomination to fill the seat being vacated by Republican Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, who is retiring.

Let's see. Coors is smeared as a KKK murderer by the Kerry-loving New York Times. When he jokes that that at least is better than being Kerry, it's -- why, it's OUTRAGEOUS.
Democrats are hopeless. They are never going to make it as people.

Moments later, Robert Byrd demanded an apology from the Colorado Democratic Party.

I think it was a very funny, off the cuff comment. Dems have a wierd concept of the world when they can't take a joke.

PETE COORS
Such transparent baloney from the Democrats. It is a funny, kind of dumb remark, not really vicious.
Far nastier stuff is being said about Bush AND Kerry every day.
The Democrats know this. Some of them want to impeach the President. Now that hurts.

It would of been funnier of the New York times had inadvertly posted this picture next to the article of the KKK.

What a bunch of crybaby DemocRATS.....good grief.
They were not comparing Kerry to the Klan - they were comparing the severity of the comparison - Saying a Republican candidate is like Kerry is just as insulting as saying someone is like the KKK - a major insult.

Coors Official's Kerry Quip Draws Fire
He who whines the loudest gets the attention. The Dems are whining loudly over the Coors Official's comment, but the Dems play little notice to the mislabeled picture.

They're running a positive campaign when nationwide Kerry and Dean keep this AWOL non-story going? When Algore goes before a church and says the president "betrayed our country"? When their supporters bruing up these insane "LIHOP/MIHOP" arguments? Yeah right, lady.
