PETA to unleash activists in protest (at wrong store)

EL MONTE -- Will animal-rights activists bark up the wrong tree today?

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is planning a "snarl-in' protest today at noon in front of House of Pets, 3836 N. Peck Road.

The action is designed to convince consumers not to purchase Iams pet food. Iams mistreats dogs and cats in its laboratories, PETA activists say.

But House of Pets does not carry Iams products, said store owner Myra Larkin.

"We never have and never will,' Larkin said. "For the same reasons as (PETA) believes.'

A PETA news release said the snarl-in is an effort to "persuade people to leave Iams pet food on store shelves until the company stops conducting tests on animals in laboratories.'

Allison Ezell, a PETA spokeswoman, said the snarl-in would be a positive event in support of the store. Either that, or local organizers are not aware that House of Pets does not carry Iams.

"This is an opportunity to say there are alternatives available,' Ezell said.

A local PETA organizer did not return calls.

According to the new release, an undercover PETA investigation revealed at least 27 dogs were killed in an Iams contract laboratory. PETA says dogs and cats at the lab were confined to small cages for up to six years, dogs had their vocal chords cut out so they would not bark and dogs had untreated illnesses and were force-fed vegetable oil.

Iams officials could not be reached for comment late Thursday.

Gee, and I just bought a large bag of Iams the other day at Krogers. Makes me feel kind of proud.

The story doesn't make sense. Why would a pet food company have to do those things? What would they be trying to prove or study?

WTF is a "snarl-in"?

If it's what I'm thinking, they'd better not try that stuff at the local feed store...they'll be walking home with a few less teeth.

Ummmm....stewed tocan. Haven't had that in ages.

And remember: never put rabbit in your soupe d'elephant. Not only does it spoil the flavor, but most people dislike like a even little hare in their soup.

LOL....(Nice name btw...)

We had a PETA protest in Madison, WI this week. A woman painted herself black with body paint, and then sat in a cage for most of a day in downtown Madison. She was protesting the treatment of animals with the Barnum & Bailey Ringling Brother's Circus. (It was not a warm day by any means.)

I would have liked to have seen the protester, but I had to work.

PETA to unleash activists in protest

According to leash laws, PETAFOOLS must be leashed at all times.

If not, they may be shot as strays.

I thought Iams donated big time to the Humane Society of the US. If so that should make them the darlings of PETA.

I had no idea Iams mistreated dogs and cats in that way. I would need third party confirmation of that. We buy Nutro brand, anyway.

PETA protesting the wrong store. What a bunch of morons.

Maybe the customers should respond with a "fart-in." Directed at the protestors, of course.

(laughs) I agree. PETA is the largest grouping of idiots on the planet. Even most liberals don't reach their heights of idiocy.
Of course, they're not real popular here in Kentucky. If they tried their ridiculous "snarl-in" tactics here, we'd simply stomp all over their animal loving asses and then feed them to our dogs (let's see how they love THOSE animals).
One human is worth every single animal on the planet.
Take that, PETA!
