In a state which went for George Bush in 2000 with 61%, can two young and attractive Republican candidates raise the funds to upset a couple of Democrat incumbents?

Duane Sand, doing well in fund raising, a 1990 Naval Academy graduate with a creditable Senate race behind him is opposing Democratic At-Large Cong. Earl Pomeroy...who in 2002 made it through with just 52%, and was held to 53% in the 2000 election. Sand has a real chance, for information see:

Perhaps a bit more under the radar screen is Mike Liffrig, 45 year old Republican candidate for Senate against incumbent Byron Dorgan. Dorgan has won his last two terms with about 60% against underfunded opponents. Mike Liffrig has a well constructed web page which shows an attractive family and personal story, and a well constructed message.

If he can speak in public, campaign, and raise money, a "BUSH sweep year" would seem to make a North Dakota Upset possible.

Who can tell us more about how things are going in North Dakota?

It is amazing, and difficult to understand, that two states where Bush got 63% and 67% of the 2000 vote have FOUR Democrat Senators.

Seniority and farm subsidies.

At least thats the case with the Senators. Daschle, Dorgan, and Conrad have a lot of power in Washington and thats hard to vote out. I think Pomeroy could get tipped with the right candidate and a national push.

I met Duane Sand at a conservative fund raising conference in Florida. He seems like a great guy who is working around the clock to win this race. I think he deserves support from conservatives in his area and around the country.

They talk conservative, and vote liberal when it matters. They vote conservative for cover, when it does not matter. As an example, Daschle supports the war in Iraq, while the rest of the democratic party does not. He knows if he does not support it, he's toast. In this case, his support doesn't much matter, except for his re-election. This time, I think its too little too late for Tiny Tom.

I don't think Dorgan's going to get turfed, at least not for the next 6 years. I DO think if any of them gets wiped out in this cycle, it's Pomeroy. He's been living on 52-53% wins for the last few cycles now, and since Bush is going to be strong in ND, that can easily go down to 50-51%. Sand will have to work for the extra few percent and he'd win.
