Why do you need 18 coffins for the Shuttle disaster?

As a military parent with my children rotating so I have had at least one of them down range for over a year and no end in sight I will weigh in. The President has decided that these service members have paid enough of a price and should be returned to their families with the honor and respect they deserve. They should no more be press fodder than they should be freeper fodder. There was a soldier from my son's camp killed yesterday in Afghanistan. I have to see it over and over on the news just because he played football, not because he sacrificed his life. He was not in my son's unit but everyone at that base is upset. I know that the careers my sons have chosen is dangerous. No one could be prouder of their children than I am but this is not for political debate. These men and women died for you so how about leaving them alone with their families.

"Why do you need 18 coffins for the Shuttle disaster?"

You don't. The iamge of the 18 flag-drapped coffins is a picture of American soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice being transported back home.

The images that NASA (and others in this thread) have been referring to are totally different - they are images of coffins containing the remains of the Shuttle Columbia astronauts being removed from a cargo plane with an honor guard. These images were being mistakenly used by several news outlets in conjunction with the original image of the 18 coffins from Kuwait. NASA's press release sums it up nicely.

Just another example of how many in the press just simply don't do any simple, basic investigation before reporting a story...
