Communal penance is a special service (held alot during lent) and in many parishes it is held every first Friday. I know it is used in my home diocese of Kansas City, St. Joseph, and others as well, but I'm thinking it may not be held everywhere. Might be at the discretion of the Bishop. It's a service that makes going to confession a bit easier on the priests and the parishoners, but it is not supposed to be used for serious sin. It's actually a very uplifting service, where instead of getting in line for communion, you get in line to confess your faults, shortcomings, small sins....like that. Everyone there prays for forgiveness and for each other. "Communal".

Gov. James E. McGreevey said he loves his Catholic faith and will continue to practice it, but church leaders are wrong to tell him and other politicians not to support abortion rights.

Let's put that through the Bozoputer's liberal translation program:

Gov. James E. McGreevey said he loves his Catholic faith and will continue to practice it, but church leaders are wrong to tell him and other politicians not to commit adultery with imported Thai sex slaves.

I mean, he might as well have said that. The Church has just as much or as little right to tell him what to do in that area as well.

If voters think Catholic politicians are bound to obey their church instead of the U.S. Constitution, Catholics are going to have trouble getting elected.>>>

No. Catholics have no trouble getting elected.

Whether Kerry has trouble getting elected is another question, he clearly is not Catholic; he's a traitor who thinks sucking the brains out of babies is juuuuuust fiiiiiiine.

I love McGreevey's comment:

"I must follow my own conscience; my own set of beliefs."

Hitler and Stalin professed the same philosophy.
