If you translate McGreevy's statments, essentially what he is saying is that Catholics are ineligible to hold public office unless they renounce their faith.

McGreevey: Church wrong to dictate to Catholic politicians

Someone needs to tell him that's he actually a Unitarian and if he goes there no one will criticize him for anything he believes.

"But as governor, I have a basic moral obligation to govern in a Democratic, civil, inclusive society."

"Civil" societies don't slaughter their children.

One incident that I am aware of happened at the St. Patricks Day Parade in Newark, NJ, where James Mc Greedy was named as the Grand Marshall. There was a reception at St. Patrick's Hall at the end of the parade where a Pro-Life Priest was removed from the premises for speaking against ABORTION!

Hey, McGreevy, Catholics consider the Pope to be the Vicar of Christ. That means it wasn't an OPINION, bud.

Now, if you don't believe that the Pope is the Vicar of Christ, I would suggest you find another church.

Personally, I must follow my own conscience, my own set of beliefs,

Isn't interesting how we get a glimpse into the mind of McGreevey here? He has basically said: I am my own God.

Church opinions like the one issued Friday by the Vatican force American Catholics to chose between obeying their religion and practicing politics, McGreevey said.

Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.

Luke 18:22-23

Since that does not occur and many Catholics are lapse in their confessions, there are therefore many false Catholics. Oh absolutely! You are so right.

That's why we have "communal penance".

Uh, what's "communal penance"?

"Is it wrong for politicians to dictate to religions."

The right of an association to set conditions of membership is a first amendment right.

This means determining who is not a member.

The church is defined as a group who support human life.
The governor is not in that group.

>>>

It's a nonsacrament where you pretend to confess your sins and the Church pretends to forgive them.

The Pope is also against the death penalty and the war in Iraq. Is the church going to refuse communion to Catholic politicians who favor them?

When John F. Kennedy ran for president, he had to assure Americans that he wouldn't let the Vatican dictate his policies. I don't understand why Rome is now trying to meddle in American politics. If voters think Catholic politicians are bound to obey their church instead of the U.S. Constitution, Catholics are going to have trouble getting elected.
