Thanks for posting that. ISTR that Ashe was a former Army officer.

I never knew Pat Tillman, but I knew many like him who aren't household names. Sleep well, America, for another of your sons will step into the terrible vacancy this leaves in your guardians' ranks.

A prayer for the parents and brothers of this fallen soldier wouldn't be amiss, either. They are having an indescribably bad time, with the press always looking for a way to make it worse.

Is anyone besides me surprised, disappointed, or even angry at the relatively low-key presentation of Tillman's death at nfl.com?

I know the draft is tomorrow and all, but to have one headline story (admittedly the first) and one other small reference to him on the home page is pretty weak.

Eli Manning said that Tillman's death made the draft going on in the next two days seem pretty small. It would appear that the NFL disagrees.

I read about Tillman today. Since I don't keep up with sports, I had never heard of him. At first I was stunned...then I began to weep.

I didn't know there were people like him still left. The part that wasted me was the fact that 9/11 motivated him to do what he did, leaving 3 million dollars to be a soldier... and to die. A true American hero. God bless him.

"Are you thinking about moving out of SFLA?"

Eventually, but only after we can retire. For my wife that's only about 5 years. Then we'll move to someplace in north Florida so I can finish out my time in the Florida retirement system. After that we hope it's off to Texas. I love the area of Roswel, l Georgia but I couldn't handle the traffic. Living in Miami, that says a lot. LOL But the best thing about Georgia, Alabama, Tennesee, North and South Carolina AND Texas is that they don't talk funny. They talk American like it means something if you know what I mean. Not like my current residence. Down here they just talk liberal and anti-American.

Actually, I mean to transfer to a better school nearer my home in Coral Gables.

Classic Sun Tzu. You must know your enemy and yourself to achieve victory.

I just got back from the make shift memorial The Cardinals have set up in front of their training complex in Tempe. Lots of kids and parents there, signing messages for the Tillman family. Many local TV news stations there too.

It's a beautiful set up. I wrote a message, left a candle for him and said a prayer.

The only bad thing was one lone creep out on the curb blasting Bush (being a "draft dodger") trying to ruin the whole memorial. He was largely ignored, if not scorned.

Tillman is a class act, and a true American Hero. We have been blessed by his sacrifice.

On a sports forum, there was a nice thread going until a couple of the far leftists opened their mouths. Right on schedule.

Right on schedule, indeed. There is one of those derelicts planted in front of the Tillman memorial at the Cardinal's Training complex in Tempe tonight, ranting away how Bush is a draft dodger, holding up his little sign, ect...

Sickening how the disease of leftism knows no bounds when it comes to manners, or class.

RANGER CREED
Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and high esprit de corps of the Rangers.

Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite soldier who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air, I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move further, faster, and fight harder than any other soldier.

Never shall I fail my comrades I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong, and morally straight and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be, one hundred percent and then some.

Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well trained soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, neatness of dress, and care of equipment shall set the example for others to follow.

Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country.

Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission, though I be the lone survivor.

Don't judge the rest of the metro area by Roswell. Traffic up there is impossible. I only go up there for dog trials on weekends, and if I go up for a "run through" on Tuesdays I wait until 7 when the traffic has died down.

I have a 15 minute commute to work, it's really no problem. Of course I'm a 2nd generation native, so I know all the short cuts. :-D

I am in the state retirement system also and I'm vested, so I wouldn't move out of state either . . . but if your plans change, just let me know. You would love my daughter's school.

Why is Pat Tillman not being referred to by his proper title? He was a soldier. He died a soldier. Soldiers have names and ranks. Why is that no one in the media can find the respect to call him by his name and rank?

Thought I'd add Ted Williams as another athlete that put his sports career on hold to serve his country. Also Bob Feller. I'm sure there are many others as well. All great Americans.

I hope Mel Gibson will make a film about him.

That could be wonderful...
