Mass Marketing of 'Jesus' DVD in America

CBN News) - The surprising success of "The Passion" may have overshadowed the long-running "Jesus" film. That movie has been shown around the world for many years, as a way of spreading the Gospel.
Now, the movie's promoters have a new mission: to spread it on DVD throughout America. It has become a movie classic. The story of Jesus flickering on screens from rural India to the Andes of South America. For the past 25 years, Campus Crusade's "Jesus" film has circled the globe, but surprisingly, few Americans have seen the movie. Now that is about to change.
Southern Field Director Terry Whitson said, "Our focus is to put a copy of the Jesus DVD in every home in America. It doesn't hurt that Americans have been flocking to see Mel Gibson's movie "The Passion of The Christ."
Whitson continues, "We know "The Passion" is about the last 12 hours...give them the rest of the story. Bring closure…to a lot of people…[who] are asking questions." To make that happen, churches and Christian businessmen are sponsoring mass mailings of the Jesus DVD to every one of America's 122 million homes.
It is an ambitious project. Three states have already completed their mailings. North Carolina is currently underway. The state's volunteer leader, Kirk Wilkerson, feels God Himself recruited him. "…I got back to the office and was in tears... Nothing's wrong... But I have physically been in the presence of the Holy Spirit…can't explain it to you, but I have to do this."
That divine compulsion helps explain why thousands of volunteers are mailing DVD's to homes in Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma, Iowa, North Dakota and Montana.
Results are sometimes delayed. Wilkerson spoke of a lady who actually received the "Jesus" video in Florida, after having it in her possession for a couple of years...[that] led to her relationship with Jesus Christ.
Kirk expects to finish reaching North Carolina's 3.8 million homes with the Jesus DVD by the end of the year.

The Jesus movie is by far the most watched movie in the world, and has been translated into the most languages (I've even watched versions in kikuyu and swahili).
And though simple, it always moves people.

Never seen it, sorry. Uh, saying it is the most watched movie in the world does not necessarily mean all 6 billion + people in the world have watched it. And anyways the article does say that in the US it is not as watched.
And no need to tell me sorry. I don't own the rights to the film.

I traveled to Uganda last summer with a group of eight others. We brought the Jesus film in 17 Ugandan languages, as well as all the equipment to show it in the middle of nowhere.
We trained the Jesus Film team, and got to participate in the inviting/showing of the film. A great opportunity. Every moring when I wake up, I know that the film is being shown somewere in Uganda.

Exceptionally cool. I was able to see it when it was first released in the seventies. I already own it on DVD. To this day, despite the better acting and production values of The Passion of the Christ, the Jesus film remains my favorite filmed version of the Gospels.

I really hope to see more religious movies come to the Silver Screen, I have not been to another movie since going to the Passion....

Thanks for the post.
Just ordered my copy.
Haven't seen it yet, but it sure sounds interesting.
I really liked the Passion of Christ, but I thought the Gospel of John was really good, also.
I'd have to say that, having not seen The Jesus Movie, Jesus of Nazareth is my favorite, though.
