WASHINGTON (AP) President Bush cautioned Prime Minister Ariel Sharon against harming Yasser Arafat, a White House official said Friday, after the Israeli leader said he was no longer bound by a promise to spare Arafat from attack.
Sharon said he raised the issue with Bush when they met at the White House on April 14. The White House said Bush ''reiterated his opposition to such an action'' against the Palestinian leader.
''We have made it entirely clear to the Israeli government that we would oppose any such action,'' National Security Council spokesman Sean McCormack said. ''The president was pretty clear.''

We have made it entirely clear to the Israeli government that we would oppose any such action,' It would be nice if the explained why? It would also be nice if they explained what, if any, difference there is between Yassin and Rantisi on the one hand and Arafat on the other hand. The only difference I can see is that prior to the timely demise of Yassin and Rantisi, Arafat was the only one of the three who had personally given orders to kill an American official.

I was just about to post the same thing. Of course he has to say he opposes it.
But that doesn't mean that he'll condemn it when it's done.

As much as Israel values its friendship with the U.S. there are times when a country must do certain things in its own interes which may not please everybody. I hope and pray that this will be one of those times.

I do not oppose Arafat facing justice either. Arafat just does not have enough lives to pay for his terrorists acts.
He is fair game.

I'm glad that FReepers here are understanding the Bush administration translation here. We know that Arafat is scum and Bush deep down wants him taken out, but of course he's not going to say it publicly. Gotta make the "international community" happy, you now.

What you mean "we", Kimosabe?
Arafat's head in a jar on Sharon's desk.
Now would not be too soon.

I'm glad that FReepers here are understanding the Bush administration translation here. We know that Arafat is scum and Bush deep down wants him taken out, but of course he's not going to say it publicly. Gotta make the "international community" happy, you now. The US needs to stick to its principles. It said it wanted Osama dead or alive. And it said it wanted Al-Sadr dead or alive. If he's not going to say it publicly then the administration has a big problem when it comes to principle. It also puts an ally on the spot, and simply adds to the anti-Israel criticism from the whole world.

May God forgive President Bush for sheltering terrorist Arafat. His hands are stained by much Israeli bloood by doing so.
