I think it's partly something to do with whatever they changed in peanut butter - in the 60's it was utterly disgusting, thick and grainy and I hated it. The current stuff is pretty good. I think another factor is that because there are peanuts in absolutely everything these days, early childhood exposure is almost unavoidable.

I read an article a couple of years ago about a woman whose child was deathly allergic (and was insisting that no child who attended the same school with hers should be allowed to bring peanut butter sandwiches for lunch) who had had such severe "morning" sickness that the only thing she could keep down was peanut butter - she ate a jar a day.

I'm 44 and didn't start hearing about peanut allergies till maybe ten or fifteen years ago.

Peanut allergies are very real, and can be fairly deadly.

That's one of the reasons that many airlines no longer offer peanut snacks.

I had a lot of people not like me in school and I didn't cause much trouble. I was honest and blatantly forthright in my convictions. That bothered a lot of people.
Even if this kid is a troublemaker, they shouldn't suspend him indefinitely. They have no right to go to such lengths.
In addition, they are holding him suspended on one accusation, not because he's a known troublemaker. If that is the case, then they need to make that clear.

That was exactly my point. I believe this to be a slanted article not giving us the "real" story, which "could" be that the boy is a historical troublemaker. I simply agree that this suspension is a bit much for something this trivial, THEREFORE, I think there is more to the story and that the media is being its typical self and spinning this to be a "poor johnny" story.

It's real, and nobody knows.

A good theory is that universal immunization, by preventing early childhood diseases, leaves that little immune system all dressed up with no where to go. Sometimes, that immune system locks onto peanut antigen to attack (instead of the measles it's designed for), and you have a problem.

My oldest daughter has it, and in her case it's quite severe, unfortunately.

40 years old - been allergic to peanuts since I was about 10. I can, however, eat small amounts of peanut butter, but it has to be creamy and low in oil content. Prior to 10, I ate peanuts all the time.

I knew someone in grade school allergic to peanuts, but not deathly allergic. Also milk allergies. Peanut allergies seemed to soar in the 80's. When my son, now in high school, was little, we were urged not to give peanut butter before a certain age (2 or 3), also, strawberries, orange juice, and honey, to reduce their risk of become allergic or intolerant. One of my sisters worked for an allergist. Apparently it has something to do with building antibodies or resistance to certain substances in those foods which aren't present prior to a certain age. My son's friend is extremely allergic to the tiniest bit of egg in anything. He polices himself quite well now, but we had to be hypervigilant when he was younger and visited our home. His mother attributes it to a particular vaccine he received as an infant. My sister, 39, recently developed an allergy to fruits with pits like peaches. Weird. I've had severe hayfever allergies since I was quite young - the usual culprits for me - cats, trees, mold, dust, pollens, etc.

Actually, with diabetes the trick is to standback from carbs ~ period!

Folks using insulin do, of course, consume carbs. Folks who are using diet control stick to the menu available in the paleolithic. It's pretty much what you'd find to eat out on the trail following the herds ~ meat, green fruit, seeds, nuts ~ greens. You get used to it.

I'm convinced this is a normal condition.

The term "Nazi" is a German acronym for the "Nationalsozialismus" (National Socialist Party). "Socialism" is not one of the afflictions of the far right. Communists who claimed the USSR as their exemplar are indeed socialists as the country's full name explains: Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Appropriately, Nazism is on the far left just a despicably much as communism.
