A friend of mine works in the industry. He says the bomb dropping was for pure PR, as it really doesn't prove anything--remotely guided bombs are old news. It is amazing though having a supersonic (700mph) full sized bomber flying.
More amazing, according to my friend, is Boeing's robot controlled land vehicle. Lots more to bump into on the ground, than in the air.

Well sure, but why?
The USAF will need this airplane if we ever have Dem
Pres. again, since wafflers like JfK are reluctant to
send pilots into harm's way. But I don't think that
was the message.
Perhaps the demo was to send a message to nascent nuke
states (Iran, PRK, some bozos in S.America) that the US
won't even need to risk a pilot to take out the facility.
And although I agree that pilots are at risk of becoming
obsolete due to weight/life support/risk/sustained Gs/etc.,
I do wonder: what does this a/c do that a cruise missle
can't? Other than get to the target area and elect to do
nothing, that is.
