Norway Follows the Lead of Leaving Spain [out of Iraq]
Sofia News Agency ^ | April 22, 2004

Norway is the next coalition country to leave Iraq before June 30.

According to Norwegian Foreign Minister Jan Petersen, his country sees as priority the peacekeeping mission of its troops in Afghanistan.

Since Spain announced that it would pull out its 1,400 troops, Honduras, with 368, and the Dominican Republic, with 302, have also decided to withdraw their soldiers.

Meanwhile, Thailand's prime minister said his country would withdraw its non-combat troops from Iraq if they were attacked.

US Secretary of State Colin Powell has made phone calls this week to try to hold the rest of the 20-some coalition intact.

Not any huge practical loss, considering they have only 180 or so troops in Iraq (the Telemark Engineer squadron and some mine clearing teams)..

We should not give any foreign aid to the countries that don't have the will to stick with us.

Go Spanish
v
1. to run from danger like a girl. ("As the enemy was shooting back, the Socialist forces in Iraq chose to go Spanish.")

2. to respond pliantly to blackmail or threats. ("Zappy led his countrymen to ridicule and slaughter when they elected to go Spanish following the Madrid bombings.")

Please use this newly-coined term. Liberally!

Its especially pathetic that these people won't even leave their troops there until the "handover" in June. Its like driving your kids to doctor, but dropping them off a mile before you get there because, "it could be dangerous in that neighborhood, good luck!"

When, in about 5-10 years, Iraq becomes a large and prosperous nation drawing interests and influence throughout the world, these nations abandoning her will not be forgotten.

They'll know who their real friends are. Who stuck with them in their time of need.

So do we now have to stop buying things from Norway and Spain, like was suggested in the case of France and Germany? More importantly, do we now have to refer to Spanish Moss as Freedom Moss?

I am pretty sure that the Norwegian troops will fulfill their mandate.

I am Norwegian, so I'll try to check out the Norwegian media.

It has already been fairly clear that the troops would only stay til the end of june even though our FM was very positive to extending the stay after having visited the troops a few weeks back (Before the whole Sadr affair started). There were even published some interview with the troops who all stated they would like to stay on.

I think I posted a thread on here about it.

do we now have to refer to Spanish Moss as Freedom Moss?

That stuff is the bane of fishermen everywhere. My father used to call it the 10,000lb. test snag. It's parasitic, and kills trees. We can continue to call it "Spanish Moss."

How many of these countries were listed in the oil-for-food scam in the U.N.. Could be some connection here.
Just a thought.

Kerry's recommendation to solve our problems in Iraq is to appeal to the international community for help. Does he mean these countries who are leaving?

Dollars to donuts that the islamokazis are looking to attack the Thais ASAP after this asinine statement.

There are plenty of girls with Old Glory on their shoulders kicking ass abundantly in Iraq.
