. . . how can a scorecard equate a vote against the Partial Birth Abortion ban with a vote against a questionable social welfare plan?

Because a leftist has no concern for the unborn.

Those rats are getting more creative all the time. They know that Qerry's claim of being Catholic is a double edged sword that cuts them both ways.

Not only is John Kerry a hippocrit Catholic b/c he is in favor of killing one and one-half million little unborn babies each year; he never had his first marriage annulled by the church before he married Tuh-Ray-Za. No good Catholic he. And, the good Catholics in America need to unite against his campaign for President of the U.S.

Ignored it after I read this little disclaimer...

The Catholic Voting Scorecard is the work of Democratic Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D, CT) and Congressman Nicholas Lampson (D, TX

Another example of liberal hubris and self-rightousness.

“Many of the issues they’re talking about really have nothing to do with actual Catholic teaching or religion. It is interpretation of economic policy.” According to Congressman King, the Democrats are “attempting to make liberal Democrats look like mainstream Catholics.”

Figures. Looks like they are working on an image make-over after the Catholic Church did all but excommunicate Kerry over his political positions.

It is interpretation of economic policy

That is my guess. The scorecard makes certain assumptions about what means will best achieve ends in tune with Catholic sensibilities or doctrine. I doubt one of those means is fostering a robust free market.

Adding some more guesses, I would guess you get more points if you think American foreign policy should be tightly tied to acting through international organizations, favoring a preemptive regime of responding to threats to America is a negative, generous and non judgmental welfare is a plus, free trade is bad, and high miniumum wages are good, writing big checks to the third world is good, but even as importing their products because they are produced by slave labor is bad, and America consuming more than its share of the planet's resources is bad.

I am not Catholic, nor a politician, so I can't be scored, but if I was, I suspect my score would be really, really low, particularly since I am a "moderate" on abortion. I won't bore you by what I mean by "moderate."

If Catholics actually believed that John Kerry were true to the faith, then the French-looking Massachusetts senator might not be 14 percentage-points behind Bush in Louisiana, a heavily Catholic state with strong French Cajun culture.

In simpler terms, KERRY IS A PHONY, and the voters already know it.

The Catholic Voting Scorecard is the work of Democratic Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D, CT) and Congressman Nicholas Lampson (D, TX). While the scorecard is yet unfinished, 67 Catholic House Democrats scored an average of 76 percent, while their 49 Republican colleagues averaged only 64 percent.

Once again, this is an act of lay Catholics attempting to instruct the faithful regarding the Catholic faith in opposition to the instruction of the bishops. Thank goodness they didn't attend a Latin Mass, otherwise this might actually get the bishops in a real huff!

Beyond the abortion issue, about which the case is VERY clear against the Dems...

"No one can be at the same time a sincere Catholic and a true Socialist."

- Pius XI , Quadragesimo Anno (1931)

The type of totalitarian, secular humanist, collectivist statism advocated by Lib Dems, which includes culture-of-death ideology such as their pro-abortion absurdity, cannot be reconciled with the Catholic faith or any other variety of Christianity.
