Jonah commits a fundamental philosophical error here. He attempts to question the value of something that does not exist. Namely, John F. Kerry's patriotism.

Hellooooooooo? Earth to Jonah? John Kerry fought in Vietnam. End of discussion. (/Meehan)

But pointing out John F'n Kerry's hypocrisy is worth making the philosophical error...

Did you fight in Vietnam?
If you didn't, I don't think you have any right to criticize Jonah Goldberg's criticism of John Kerry who did fight in Vietnam.
Then again, since I didn't serve in Vietnam, I have no right to question your questioning of Jonah Goldberg's criticism of John Kerry, who did fight in Vietnam, during the Vietnam War against the Vietnamese.

Get it? If I point out John Kerry voted against, say, the MX Missile, I'm questioning his patriotism. But when John Kerry questions Bush's patriotism, he's merely criticizing Bush's record. This is so true. I believe it was Kondracke who recently wrote, President Bush campaigns and is accused of attacking Kerry, while Kerry attacks Bush and is excused as only campaigning.
The political jujitsu being attempted here is breathtaking. Fortunately, the Kerry campaign is really bad at it and is just opening itself up to ridicule.

"For generations, Democratic candidates and liberal journalists have asserted with impunity that Republicans, by their very nature, hate blacks, gays, children, the poor, the environment, animals, and immigrants" With their constant reinforcement of this basic lie and with their hidebound attachment to the notion of 'blind utopianism', the Liberals have perpetuated senseless social strife in America and will do so forever. It is the goal of the Republican party to bring as many minorities, immigrants, disadvantaged, etc. as possible to the American success story. When everyone sees and has their own stake in this success, the Liberals will no longer succeed with their lies. And just for the record and in case anyone is keeping score, there is no lie so greedily gobbled up by the masses than the lie about being disadvantaged, victimized or exploited. The poorest American is still tons better off than most people in the world. If not, he still has way more opportunity to change his condition than the poor elsewhere in the world.

And not only did Kerry go to 'Nam, but I know that Kerry went to 'Nam. And he knows that I know that Kerry went to 'Nam. But do I know that he knows that I know that he went to 'Nam.
Guess what - Kerry went to 'Nam.

I didn't fight in Vietnam either since I was only a child then. However, I don't think anyone is particularly pointing out Kerry's patriotism or lack of it, they just would like to actually see his military record to find out what heroic acts he performed to receive those medals.
But Kerry won't let anyone see them. Why not? That's all inquiring minds want to know.

` ` Yeah, Kerry is pretty bad. The last time he got called plastic, Dupont Chemical filed suit to protect the good name of their polymer products.

Couldn't agree with you more! I am so tired of the whining. America is still the greatest place on Earth. And if we sucked as much they say, why is everybody trying so hard to get here, legally and illegally? It's called Freedom. We have it, most places don't.

"Again: Why is it fair game to question conservatives' love or loyalty to children or to their fellow man, but beyond the pale to question liberals' love of country? ""Get it? Great article. The reason they get away with this, of course, is the unbiased - or even conservative - American media. It's a good thing erramerica is coming to the rescue to give the libs a fair shake. Sheesh.

My grand parents came here in the early twenties. They had nothing and nowhere else to go. They just worked and succeeded. This is still done by immigrants to this country all the time. If you come here and fail, you were going to fail anywhere you lived. At its worst, (and even that ain't bad) the US is still worth fighting and dying for. The first generation of my family who were actually born here (aunts, uncles, my father as well) volunteered, no questions asked, for WWII service. They were proud to do it and happy to finally demonstrate their gratitude to the country which adopted them. No nation on earth can boast such allegiance to itself from immigrants and newly naturalized minorities. America is the most gargantuan political experiment and spectacular national sovereignty success story in history. Match that!!

Timothy McVeigh and that Sniper guy who just got the death penalty both fought in Desert Storm. I didn't fight in Desert Storm, so does that mean I can't question their patriotism or otherwise critisize them?
