HAMTRAMCK, Mich. (AP) -- A mosque took another step Tuesday night toward being allowed to send out a call to prayer to Muslims on a loudspeaker.

In a 5-0 vote, the City Council gave its preliminary approval to the Bangladeshi al-Islah mosque to carry the Arabic call to prayer five times a day. The mosque compromised by agreeing not to air the call before 6 a.m. or after 10 p.m.

You're joking, aren't you?
This is America. What are you talking about having to
have a copy of the Koran on the top shelf?
I'm not critizing you, just wondering why no one told him or her to get lost.

I prefer "Jesus is Lord. And by the way, Allah and Mohammed SUCK!" as the response.

If you've ever traveled to a place where this is practiced, you know that it is obnoxious beyond words.

I would time the competition for immediately after the screeching - whether it was church bells, preaching, the Israeli anthem, rap music, rude noises, or whistle and boom of bombs.

It wasn't America, it was Canada-you know, where we have a "Human Rights Code" which forces us to "respect" other people's religions. This women pointed it out to us going "Thees ees a holee book, you always put eet on theee veree top." We didn't want to risk a complaint to the city human rights office, so we had to do what she said.

This should be challenged as a violation of the establishment clause of the First Amendment. Government is giving official recognition and permission to a religious organization to violate normal standards of noise enforcement. The city government is forcing the local citizens to listen to a religious broadcast that they have officially sanctioned. Where is the ACLU? Where is the American Atheist organization? Where is the Freedom From Religion crowd? Those clowns only show up to argue against Christians.

Thanks for the explanation. Gee, by all means, let's make sure we don't offend any Muslim sensibilities.
They are so "religious". I guess we should all just ignore the fact that they have committed every act of terrorism.
I will not have the call to prayer in my town. I will fight it. Thats my rant.

Jawas are harmless and they are into trade.

I think you want to go for Sandpeople aka Tusken Raiders--perpetual anger, slavers, hostage takers, killers of the innocent, thieves and generally unlikeable, despite being humanoid.

I believe I read that the churches in the city already have a variance / exception to ring their bells.

Government is giving official recognition and permission to a religious organization to violate normal standards of noise enforcement.

If they have to be reminded five times a day, they may be more stupid than I thought.

It's late...and I find this incredibly funny.

Why can't the Muslims just look at their watches?

A mosque took another step Tuesday night toward being allowed to send out a call to prayer to Muslims on a loudspeaker.

I heard on FNC last night that this call to prayer also includes the words "Allah is great" and "There is no God but Allah".

Can anyone confirm this?

Female employees at the library I worked at had to stop wearing shorts because it offended the Muslim patrons.

I believe it ---- today it's ankles but tomorrow it will be faces ---- start sewing your burkas.

The Quran says to pray 3 times a day, not 5.

Archeologists confirmed that all mosques built within 100 years of Muhammad's death were built for prayers facing Jerusalem, not Mecca.

If they are stuck in the 11th century, why then are they using electronically amplified devices, i.e. speakers, to broadcast. Let one of their religiuos leaders stand on top of the mosque and scream his lungs out and see how long it lasts.
