According to an Indian news paper, US Air Force F-16s and AWACS are set to take on the IAF during joint combat aircraft exercises to in Gwalior early next year.
According to the Indian Express, the USAF accepted the IAF's request during a Planning Conference held last week at the Shillong-based Eastern Air Command.
A US Air Force delegation led by Lt. Gen. Victor E. Renaurt Jr, Vice-Commander of the Pacific Air Command, arrived in New Delhi on April 13th to discuss the participation in the joint exercises.
The decision to introduce the AWACS in the proposed exercises comes at a time when the IAF is all set to acquire the Israeli Phalcon early warning radar systems to enhance its strategic capabilities. The IAF had asked for an AWACS to participate in the last joint exercises held in Gwalior from February 16 to 26, but the USAF had turned down the request because of operational commitments.

I think the IAF the article refers to is the Indian Air Force, not the Israeli Air Force as one might assume. Otherwise how to explain why it is necessary to travel to New Delhi instead of Tel Aviv and why the IAF would acquire a Phalcon from itself.

I hope this exercise is called something like "Operation Let's Bomb Some So-Called Refugee Camps"!

I think the IAF the article refers to is the Indian Air Force, not the Israeli Air Force as one might assume One might, but shoudn't. There is no such entity as the Israeli Air Force. It's the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), organisationally covering land, sea, and air forces.

Hope our pilots have their resumes up to date. Most people training with people from India lose their jobs shortly thereafter.

This is great news.
Apparently, the U.S. no longer fears a Pakistani-Indian conflict. Pakistan, our "ally" is crucial to our success in changing the face of the middle-east. But her antagonism toward India has always worried me. India would be the good guy in any such Moslem-Hindu fight.
This is a big win for the big stick diplomacy of George W. Bush. Musharaf's country has been brought into the fold to such an extent that it is apparently not threatened by Indo-American war exercises. Maybe peace is breaking out all over after all.

Also, India is a natural counterbalance for dealing with China. India does not trust China any more than do Freepers.

Some folks in my graduate programme are from India and they get on a soapbox when you mention China. Most of the Indian students don't trust China any further than they can throw it.
