"In addition to all the horrors and the destruction and desecration of over 140 churches since the arrival of the UN mission in this region, the shocking spectacles from the church of Christ the Savior,

Hard to believe, but I have come to hate the UN almost as much as I do the sandmaggots.

Does anyone know whatever happened to the U.S. soldier who refused to serve under U.N. command?

I used the word "monument" intentionally; I understand these countries are essentially post-Christian. But there are plenty of people who think of Notre Dame and the like as constants, something they might go see sometime when they get the chance; unaware unless they actually visit Strausbourg, for example, that France is becoming a Muslim country. My statement was rhetorical, but there's some reality there: if you really are interested in seeing great Western or Christian history in Europe, you need to go soon. Notre Dame is not a constant, especially in an increasingly-Islamic nation.

As for mourning the loss of this brick and mortar (which my post was not), why not mourn it? Why not mourn the end of Christian faith in whole nations where it once flourished? It's sad to see these stunning structures reduced to monuments to belief past. It's now inevitable, but it's sad, nonetheless.

The post-Christian nations are primarily in Western Europe, where both Protestantism and Roman Catholicism both essentially surrendered to the tidal wave of materialism in the 20th century. Eastern Europe is different.

The Serbs still practice their Orthodox faith. Maybe that's the real reason why Clinton and the U.N. decided that they needed to be bombed into submission.

"Islam must be seen for what it is: a barbaric cult that must be annihilated."

Or converted.

vast majority of Christian church buildings in Europe are just that, simply buildings and "monuments" to past generations' faith. The church is largely dead in these countries anyway... (France for example has many more committed Moslems than Christians...) so why do we mourn the stone, bricks and morter more than whole generations of native Europeans lined up going to hell?

Based on my very limited slice of knowledge, I have to agree. When we went to England/Ireland/France a few years ago, we could walk into Mass 5 min before it started and sit where we pleased. Here in our church in Ga if you don't get there 20 min early you stand.

"They hate us with every fiber of their being, and we're supposed to be 'tolerant' of them. It's really, really wearing thin."

Yup.

Understood about Eastern faith. That's why I was specifying Western Christendom. The Orthodox countries have not rolled over for materialism or Muslims.

They are also bad for Jews. They are involving us in a permanent war with the Arab world. They are making it much worse."

The sad truth is, they have more to fear from us (a post-Christian "Western" civilization founded in materialism/hedonism) than they do from the Muslims.

The old story plays out again. Byzantium didn't fall to the Turks until it had first been sacked and mortally wounded by Christian crusaders.

The only consolation for Christians is Jesus' promise that the gates of hell will not prevail against his church--though I'm beginning to think that the church to which He refers is in every individual heart that remains faithful to Him.

When you get a bunch of raccoons in the basement, and they rip stuff up and crap all over everything, you sort of understand that. They're raccoons: that's what they do. They're pests, and they need to be exterminated. These muzzies are ostensibly human. This makes them even worse than raccoons; they should know better. The raccoons are acting strictly according to their nature, these muzzies are acting according only to the worst aspects of their nature. If anyone doubts that "original sin" is a real, meaningful concept I offer this incicent as evidence in favour.

...the church to which He refers is in every individual heart that remains faithful to Him.

If it doesn't start in the individual hearts, it certainly will not ever genuinely manifest in the collective communities we've grown to call "the church."

I agree, it is sad. However, my point is we should mourn MORE the demise of vital Christianity in Europe more than the signs of that demise...that is church buildings as mere dead monuments.

...church buildings as mere dead monuments...

No, they are not dead monuments. If they contain a Tabernacle, my Lord is present there in a very real way.

Christian forgiveness doesn't work in all places and all times. There is a place for "smiting the wicked". This is such a place.

Given that the enablers of the "wicked" are wearing blue berets and/or helmets, need I say more?

Uh, the underlying point of the article is that there are no Christians left after the bombing and war in the area.

Sick of finger pointers at both the Church and America. If it's just a "monument" then what the heck are those rabid PLO/Hamas murderers whining about over the Temple Mount in Jerusalem?

Try telling them "it's just a monument."

Or, better yet, ask 'em if we can peruse ALL mosques everywhere for weapons and conspiracy threats.

What exactly is a "Tabernacle?" My Lord Jesus said each of our bodies is His temple. God doesn't dwell in bricks and morter, he dwells in His people. Where are His people in this this situation...looking to the government to protect their own church building? They should be doing this themselves, not whining about it to the West.

That's kind of like the dank, stinky dungeon they must have thrown Christ into during his hours of torture.

Jesus said they would do this to his followers. The Islamofascists are proving the Savior right.
