RAPID CITY, S.D., April 19 -- When Tim Giago, a native of the Pine Ridge Indian reservation, decided to run for the Senate as an independent, he did more than shake up the state's tight, closely watched race between Senate Democratic leader Thomas A. Daschle and John Thune, a former Republican representative.
He made South Dakota's Indian Country the focal point of the campaign.
Daschle, who had the most to lose from Giago's run, now has the most to gain. After a meeting with Daschle on Saturday, Giago, a nationally syndicated columnist and advocate for Indian causes, said he is withdrawing and throwing his weight behind the Democrat.

More like threats instead of promises.

No Giagos (a typical down-on-the-reservation liberal) for Thune. But Russell Means, who commands a much larger following, has said that a vote for Daschle is a vote for business as usual, and that only means more unemployment, alcoholism, violence, and suicide. Means is backing the Republican.

What a shame! It was the Democrat operatives that ripped off the Indians and made off with huge chunks of their money.

How anyone from South Dakota could vote for this liberal POS is beyond me.
The only thing I see is it is an easy way for influence buyers to pay a small price for a big return.
The people of South Dakota get nothing but gun control in return.
I guess duh-ashola has the 'dead Indian' vote now locked up.

Several people here in FR predicted this was going to happen. It was a publicity stunt to force the RATS to promise more (taxpayer) money to the local tribes.
Meanwhile, the voter registration drive continues. Come one, come all. Be ye alive. Be ye dead. Be ye never-been-born.

Many people in South Dakota are looking for handouts from the Government. Some of the farmers have done very well with government give away programs. They like a guy that brings home the bacon.

Google him.
He has gone from Indian Activist to Libertarian to Presidential Candidate in 1987 to supporting W in 2000 (IIRC).

More of our tax money or FBI Files or a combination of both to make this leech turn over for the Da$$hole?

Tom promised him a job being a lobbyist, like wife Linda.
Tom can get millions directed to him personally and it will be legal.
The Mafia in America is a credit when compared to our government and its leaders.

No real surprise here - shouldn't move Thune's numbers at all.
