(Spaniards' 'white flag')

You know, of course, that the Spanish troops being withdrawn are earmarked for afghanistan, where Spain believes the 'REAL' war on terror is being fought?

They (rightly or wrongly) believe that without international support, the invasion of Iraq was ill-advised, illegal and counter-productive.

Whereas the war on terror - via the fight against the Taliban - is something they continue to support.

Just so you know: it's not cowardice - it's a difference of opinion.

The Opposition here holds the same view - and I can understand their position.

NB: I personally maintain that the invasion of Iraq was the right thing to do ... but not for the reasons used as justification.

Does that mean we can pull our people out of Afghanistan? I'd say it would be a fair exchange, we've been in Afghanistan a long time.
