They made several fervent human-wave assaults against rows of concertina wire and concrete barriers. Many hundreds if not thousands of them were gunned down in the first two days. Ammo resupply was an issue on several occasions. The Mahdis only success was in Kut where they drove the CPA back to the Ukranian base. The Mahdi took very heavy losses attacking Coalition bases and haven't launched an assault since.

FWIW, the media here is reporting a total of about 600 dead on the Iraqi side since the "uprising" began.

Based on what you have reported, this figure seems to be very low.

This is the best reason I can think of not to obsess with an 'International Coalition' when you have something important to do. The more world leaders you involve, the more time you need to waste screwing around making sure that they all feel important.
