Assassination violates law: Annan

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan today condemned Israel's assassination of Hamas leader Abdelaziz Rantissi, calling on the Israeli government to "immediately end" the practice of "extrajudicial killings".

Such killings, Annan said in a statement issued by his spokesman, "are violations of international law".

The spokesman said Annan was "apprehensive that such an action would lead to further deterioration of an already distressing and fragile situation" in the Middle East.

"The only way to halt an escalation in the violence is for Israelis and Palestinians to work towards a viable negotiating process aimed at a just, lasting and comprehensive settlement, based on the Quartet's Road Map," said Annan.

He referred to the road map for Middle East peace drawn by the United States, United Nations, European Union and Russia.

Rantissi was killed by an Israeli helicopter rocket attack on his car, less than a month after he succeeded Hamas founder and spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, who was assassinated in a similar Israeli attack in the Gaza Strip.

Annan is a terrorist sympathizer and enabler and needs to be dealt with the same way we deal with other enablers.

The time is coming soon, very soon when we will have to start dealing with the enemies within.

In other news, Kofi Anan said sorry to all the victims of Rwanda and Burundi massacres.

Well, he said he's sorry. That's okay, Kofi, no need to shed a tear; you might ruin that silk suit you bought with blood money.

Was this in the same statement that explained how the UN will investigate the Iraqi oil for blood campaign that made $10 BILLION disappear into somebody's pocket?

Kofi, shut up. You have no idea what you are talking about.

The leaders of an organization that declares war on a country is fair target, just like Bin Laden is fair game.

Is that so hard to understand?

sure would be nice to move the UN bums to some other country...someplace like Rawanda....

stop it from being just a cushy assignment for friends of the gov't...

I'd bet 99% of the ambassadors would quit if they had to move out of their million dollar homes into some 40 year old hotel in a hellhole country

Law is an attribute of sovereignty.

Who or what is the sovereign that issues "international law"?

Right! Those who whine about 'international law' only mean that things didn't go according to their private wishes.
The only 'international' laws are solemn treaties made between legitimate governments. Anything else is a farce, a lie or a myth. Fact is, we have no 'international government' (yet), hence no 'international law'.

The UN is not yet a world government, but Kofi and his power-hungry pals love to hoist this fiction up the flagpole periodically, just to see how many salute.

Can't recall the issue, but some
reporter once told Pres. Bush that
so & so says your actions are
against International Law - what
about this?

Bush shot back, "International
Law??? Gosh, I'd better call my
lawyer!"

Rush ran the tape on his show,
& he could NOT stop laughing...

Kofi Annan has his head where the Sun does not shine. The situation with Hamas is WAR. Assassination of enemy leaders in war has a long precedent. That is the whole rationale behind using snipers to kill enemy officers in the combat zone.

The principle is to destroy the enemy leadership, and the enemy war effort will become disorganized and ineffective.
