Ramius, your mockage is so apropos. At the risk of sounding like a black-helicopter type, do not listen to our government- they know not of labors of the brain or the body.
Those who "labor" under the auspices of the government know only leisure of the soul and mind.
To everyone else: stick with it, do not despair, persevere.

Hey, didja see that the porn industry is now shut down due to that "star" getting AIDS?
That means a bunch of working stiffs are unemployed.

More American kids go to college and graduate school, than at any prior time in the history of this nation. So just where are you getting your info from?

If you want to know where the future lies in my opinion it's education law and education consulting. With an estimated 6 million children considered DISABLED in some form - physically, emotionally, learning, whatever - thanks to very fast and loose definitions of the word DISABLED, you can become an education consultant or advocate to testify for the lawyers who are suing to force school districts to provide students - ANY STUDENT no matter how rotten or stupid - what's called a FAPE - a Free and Appropriate Public Education. I'll leave it to you to imagine how 'appropriate' will be abused by both parents and lawyers.
This is a huge industry and as more and more screw-ups in the classroom get transformed - with the stroke of a pen - from reform school candidates to 'disabled' and 'in need of treatment' that the schools MUST BY LAW provide, you will see America's education budget go into the stratosphere.

That means a bunch of working stiffs are unemployed. [rimshot] Nicely done. Though if they have to work now only in "soft" porn does that mean they're "underemployed"?? Hmmm....

In economic terms it means demand has gone soft.

Sure! It's called the Clinton economy!

Does the National Science Foundation count? Here's a
link Note that total enrollment is flat to down (yes, there are a few upward blips). Foreign enrollment (special visas) is up substantially.
But then, why should Americans bother to go into such fields? The free traitors will just cut their throats.

You know... I've read your post a few times now, and I'm still not quite sure what the heck it means. Maybe it'll occur to me later. :-)
I think there is room for somewhat more sophisticated dialog on the subject, if that can be done without just getting into flame wars. To wit:
Yes, it is bad for us that there are people in the world willing to do jobs for far less pay than we are willing to work for, for the same work.
If it isn't really the same work, and we can win on productivity or quality, then we should still be able to compete. If we can't compete, then aren't we in the wrong business?
Quality of life is not about just income, but also cost of living. If we merely artificially jack up prices on *all* consumers to support higher wages... who are we fooling?
I detest illegal immigration, and it should be stopped. *Legal* immigrant labor however, is still a needed part of our economy. Like it or not... there are jobs that nobody here wants. If you disagree, then show me the masses of high school kids in this country, standing in line for jobs as hotel maids.

Good grief..."free traitors",now is it?
Far too many people go to college, which has become not even glorified high school.Far too many jobs, which never required a college degree,do so now, when an 8th grade education is about the level needed to to the job.A lot of kids NEVER get jobs in their majors, because their majors are either irrelevant or silly, or bogus,or over supplied.
Instead of looking at the numbers of college attendees of the past decade, look at what the stats were 3 and 6 and 9 and 12 decades ago.
And,FYI,it is NOT a function of government, to assure that everyone has the job of his/her dreams;it isn't even there function to make sure that everyone has a job at all!
To: nopardons
Yes, "free traitors". And all which that implies.
Cheers!

Kerry is a free traitor who is also a hypocritical opportunist. Until the last few months he never saw a free trade bill he didn't love.
And if you had read any of my other posts, you would know perfectly well that I have voted for President Bush at every opportunity, and will do so again.

Aaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggg...and I know better than that.
No, I didn't go to a glorified high school at all and the graduate school I went to,was even more esteemed than my undergrad college.
OTOH, if THAT is the only thing you can use to try to refute what I posted, than you've lost the debate hands down, pet.Not to mention the fact that your tag-line is ones of the silliest to see the light of day.He ain't running, won't take the job, and you're advocating helping Johnboy Kerry. :-)
To: neutrino
I've read some of your other posts. Using the idiotic term " free-traitor" is pathetic. You really do not even understand what free trade is!
Are you advocating FORTRESS AMERICA too? Do you, as it appears, imagine that the government should ensure everyone a job?
To: nopardons
I prefer traditional Republican economic values - not the "me-tooism" of the current leadership.
