There are a couple of different facets of leftism.

One is the person that wants to control other people - this person would want a gun for themselves but not for others.

Another is the person that wants someone to take care of them and relieve them of the responsibilities of life - this person would want no one but the "authorities" to have guns.

And added one is (although this is the smallest group), one who believes guns give normal individuals too much instant power over their fellow individuals, and therefore opposes guns in a moral sense.
