Should we take revenge on today's Kurds for the sins of their great grandfathers?

What about the Germans and Japanese? Their national sins are even fresher.

Nope, but we should not consider them "true" friends either.

Its not their atrocities but their religion that has him so frothing with angst.

Personally, I will go the way of "Trust, but verify". Right now, I trust them more than France and France is secular.

If they prove themselves afterwards in the further WoT, THEN I'll change my opinion.

IMHO, they are in the process of doing just that...but we shall see in the long haul.

And what do you say to comments like:

It sounds like Iraq could be a great country if we flatten most of the bad guys and turn the rest of the country over to our friends the Kurds!

Or Iraqi's are worthless but he was impressed with the Kurds.

Or

Fallujah is Sunni, not Kurdish.

Sounds to me you think you are doing a public service spreading a little animist toward Kurds because of their past...those posts come form people who don't make policy...so relax. Geez.

a little animist toward Kurds because of their past...

Well, folks ought to know the whole story before embracing folks as life long pals, bosom buddies, etc.

No, thank YOU, until you showed me the real story behind it, I believed, like most of the folks here that the Kurds were poor little lambs in the wood like Albanian slamics. Well, I was wrong. What's the view from your part of the world RC?

Have any Muslims in America, especially Iraqis, given such a gesture? I haven't seen anything. I continue to be very disappointed that the Muslims have not spoken out to the liberal media in record numbers against terrorist plans or threats!

Here in Nashville we have the largest population of Kurd refugees in America (I have no idea why). They have been coming here since the first Gulf war. They are some of our best citizens (I know Cronos, it's all a ruse and they'll slash our throats in our sleep once they get what they want).

They are HUGE supporters of president Bush and have given us some large reinforcements in our Freeping of ANSWER rallies. I live and work with these people. They have shown me no reason not to trust them.

More progmatic, Kurds are pain to Turkey and Turkey support Chechin...but most peoples don't care. However, hatred of Arabs not exactly shrinking.

Cronos, look at Iraq today. Who's killing the Americans. Its the Shiites and Sunnis. Do you see Kurds killing Americans. NO. Look at the North where the Kurds are. They all support America. All the terrorism is where the Shiites and Sunnis are. The Kurds have been the biggest victims of the Arabs. They are surrounded by countries that want to destroy them. If they turned against America, they would be finished. Turkey, Syria, Iran and the Shiites and Sunnis in Iraq would gobble them up.

My brother is in the 101st. He said that the Iraqi's are worthless but he was
impressed with the Kurds. He said that they are a great bunch of people.

That's about the same story given on NBC Nightly News a few Saturdays ago.
It really intrigues me as to why the Kurds seem to be reasonable Muslims...
but too many of the Sunnis and Shiites have just gone around the bend.

We do have somewhat of a favorable history with them even though we pulled out of the last war before their business with Sadam was done. I guess it's the 12 years of flyovers to protect them that they remember. I think some of our specical forces guys befriended them before the war began and started an alliance. Will we be able to trust them 10 years from now? I don't know. Alliances change with time. But, they are an ally in a land that is not so friendly. As I was saying before, my brother thinks they're the ones who deserve the best deal out of all this.

True, they are allies purely because they need us -- fair enough. When they prove themselves in other situations then we can call them "friends".

The Kurds (indo-europeans) have an ethnic hatred for semites (arabs) -- sometimes ethnicity matters more than religion (witness during the crusades when Shia Persia directly or indirectly aided the Crusaders against the common enemy the Sunnis.
