I hope this is true! I was hoping so last night, too... my celebratory cavalcade of carbohydrates (brownie) is waiting...

I hope this is true! Wish it were but I don't think so. Other than no one else is reporting this, see this article from today U.S. Deploys for Showdown With Cleric:

I think TASS was confused by the arrest of Sadyr's aid.

There's a lot of huffing and puffing going on on our part.
What is happening is that we are trying to see to it that Sadr has to go to Sistani for protection. The minute the Grand Ayatollah issues a fatwa placing Sadr under his protection, Sadr loses everything, especially in the eyes of the Shi'a masses. Naturally, we will petition the Grand Ayatollah to release him to coalition custody, but Sistani will refuse and we will back down, and visibly so. The murder rap will be quietly shoved aside, while the Mahdi Army is placed under the command of Sistani's toadies.
Sadr will never recover from the humiliation of having to go to Sistani to beg for protection. His career will be over. The GC will place their blessing on the settlement in yet another endorsement of Sistani's authority.
Sadr will be neutered, and Sistani will become the First Man in Iraq. We can then solve his Fallujah problem for him at our leasure, and his.
Be Seeing You,
Chris

That is a plausible scenario. Huffing, puffing and bluffing. I couldn't see it clearly as a U.S. win, but I think it would be an Iranian set-back.
We do need to get this resolved soon so we have a freer hand with Fallujah. I'm beginning to take seriously the rumor that al-Zarqawi is there. We need him out of action (captured) and his cells wiped up.

You know that is exactly what I was thinking over lunch break..what if Dubya drops this during the presser tonight!

Interesting and unique take.
