Applied Digital Solutions, Inc. announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary, VeriChip Corporation, has entered into a memorandum of understanding ("MOU") with FN Manufacturing a leading gun manufacturer to develop a first in the world of firearms. The team's objective is an integrated User Authorization System for firearms using VeriChip RFID technology.
Located in Columbia, South Carolina, this firearms manufacturer produces small arms for military and police forces, as well as the commercial market. The company is engaged in R&D efforts to study and develop various technologies (commonly referred to and understood in industry and the private sector as "smart gun") that could limit the use of a gun to one or more authorized or recognized users.
The purpose of the MOU is for VeriChip and FN Manufacturing to evaluate the feasibility of developing a long term, strategic relationship to design, manufacture and sell a "smart gun" incorporating VeriChip's RFID technology. The team will investigate a variety of RFID tags including Implant technology.
Keith Bolton Ph.D., President of VeriChip Corporation, commented "The cooperative effort envisioned between our organizations is to apply VeriChip technology and capabilities in concert with the developments of our partner to ultimately realize a production worthy solution to the issue of "smart gun" feasibility. Our combined resources provide one of the most feasible approaches to this challenge given the current knowledge base, legislative restrictions/requirements, technological hurdles and market preferences."

If this comes into play, it appears that anyone issued a new M16 will receive a microchip along with it.

I'd be interested in hearing what the boys on the bang list think of this development.

I don't think this is a good idea. It sounds to me as if they are heading towards attempting to register all guns.
Which is impossible by the way. Any gun can be altered.

BANG!

"Smart guns" raise their ugly profile again. I don't mind this, as long as police are required to use them for a several-year test period, and they remain only optional for civilians.
IOW, when pigs fly.

Smart Guns can't compensate for Dumb People. The problems this technology is hoping to address are people problems. It's as if, after being told that you can't hammer a nail with angel-hair pasta, they decide to upgrade to full-size spaghetti.

Their Holy Grail is to force guns upon us that the government can remotely deactivate from a safe distance.

There are so many things wrong with a smart gun.
Lets start with the technology:
1) If you have the chip in your right hand, can you shoot left handed?
2) How long does the verification process take?
3) What is the battery life on the gun and implant?
4) Does the bad guy need to cut off your hand or just your finger to use your gun?
Now the ethics:
1) Are you going to allow a tracking chip to be implanted in you so that you can exercise your 2nd Amendment rights?
2) As Travis stated, remote shutdown.
3) Is gun confiscation next?
I could go on, but why? We are either going to roll over or we are not. Make your choice now, before it is too late.

There are so many things wrong with a smart gun. It is a shame we cannot start with a "smart user". Like encouraging gun training and honesty in reporting gun facts.

"The team will investigate a variety of RFID tags including Implant technology."
One question I have is what if you sell your gun, how would the average citizen get rid of the impant? Surgery? What would the cost of doing so be? Also, in the case of military personel, if something happens to your gun are they going to have all the others in your group (platoon, brigade, etc.) programmed into the gun so that you can use someone elses gun? What good is the technology on the battlefield if all the enemy needs to do is send out an EMP to disable the guns (you know they will)?

IMHO the verichip is the "Mark of the Beast" and by extension, this idea becomes the tool for enforcement of the NWO. Methinks that Travis McGee's "Enemies Foreign and Domestic" is nearly upon us. Certainly this is the first time in my life I can clearly see the gathering storm clouds on the horizon. How far off is in God's hands. But certainly headed in our direction.

The gun-control Nazis don't want to take away guns, they want to put away gun owners. We are fast approaching a day of reckoning in America, when those of us who love freedom will have to choose between two options: Fight the tyranny or surrender to it. There is no third choice. That day is just around the corner. It will be interesting to see just whom among our elected leaders will side with the tyrants, and which ones will side with the patriots. I have confidence that a very large number of our military forces will side with the patriots. It's gonna get nasty, folks.

They want to put a chip in me (for any reason) they're going to have to put it into a dead corpse.

I don't know if you remember a freeper who is no longer on this forum, but he's another of you old war horses, LOL! His screen name was Thorn11ACR. I lost track of him some time ago. But he had a great saying that aptly applies here:
"When they finally DO get my guns, they're going to be warmer than ME." And of course that just has to be a prerequisite to me getting "chipped."
