Good point re the airline security. I'd love to see Linda Daschle testify about what she did for the airlines as a lobbyist...

(snip)
The establishment media helped the Clinton administration put on a good face in the aftermath of the attack on the USS Cole in Yemen in October 2000. 60 Minutes aired an interview with Clinton's "terrorism czar" Richard Clarke, who was responsible for counter-terrorism at the National Security Council. He told Lesley Stahl that the U.S. was trying to determine who staged that attack, and suggested it may have been committed by Osama bin Laden.

"Someone called Roemer" seems to think he has a sense of humor.
To: texasbluebell
Roemer is asking questions of these men who's job was NOT what he is asking!!!!
To: Miss Marple
Ooo, I think I'll get some popcorn going for that one!
To: texasbluebell
Hey, somebody had to do the planning behind the executions of 'religous and gun nuts' in Waco and Ruby Ridge to protect the nation...ditto Microsoft.
To: GOPrincess
Roemer the weasel says these two are squarely in the hotseat because they have received information that the FBI and CIA failed.
Pickard answering, and citing a July 16 (I think that was the date) call to SACs issuing a threat.
Roemer saying he was reactive not proactive.
Roemer adopting the accusatory tone and interrupting technique now.

SAC = Special Agent in Charge. They run the field offices.

Well, some offices didn't NEED to be on high alert. For example, I don't think it was necessary that the Cody, Wyoming office go on high alert.

"Pickard says they knew almost immediately it was AQ that bombed the Cole!"
Nothing to see here folks, let's move along. It's highly unlikely that the media, much less Richard Ben-Veniste, will explore this blaring contradiction. They will be more interested in criticizing Ashcroft for not doing BEFORE 9-11 the very same things they criticized him for doing AFTER 9-11.

I guess Gorelick did her job then if she was the brains behind those fiascos.
On another note, the Russians are reporting that Muktada al Sadr has been captured. Coming from Tass -- there's a thread in breaking news, but it's not confirmed yet.
Would be a great catch if he's in custody.

Thoma Pickard: Said brief the VP on Al Queda presence in the US on March 16. Said that the VP was surprised that AQ, Hamas, etc were in the US.

What is Roemer trying to trip Pichard on about the VP?

Would be terrific. Heard reports this morning that he was "willing to die." Serve up the virgins please.

Frankly I'd like to hear that testimony myself anyway. I don't trust Roemer and Pickard couldn't affirm Roemer's assertion, unless I missed it.
What? Roemer referring to previous private hearing and acting like Pickard is contradicting himself--specifically regarding what the VP said. Pickard thinks Roemer is referring to what the AG said, but Roemer says no, he knows what he's getting at.
I'm sorry, but I just have to say that Roemer is an ass.
To: Mo1
Yes....they are trying to get something on anyone in this administration. Roemer is trying to make Pickard's testimony sound tentative.
To: Mo1
The VP mentioned is Algore, right?
