The spectacle of a major politcal figure being denied Communion because of his ungodly abortion views would do more to strengthen the Catholic Church than 1000 fundraisers and fish fries.

Well said.

The man is using his office to legislate mortal sin.

What is the church waiting for?

Well, they are starting to do it but until they all agree at some USCCB meeting that they will ALL of them refuse these pro-death politicians it will be on a diocese by diocese basis. Then, even if the local bishop forbids reception there are priests who will continue to be disobedient.

The good news is that the more bishops who have the backbone to refuse Kerry and other "Catholic" polititians of his ilk the stronger they become and the more encouraged the devout Catholic population becomes. I'm waiting for his bishop to declare him excommunicated.

Concensus. You get the idea that a lot of bishops want to present a nationally united front. I'm not sure why, exactly. There's supposedly some committee working on a statement and none of them wants to come out ahead of it and then have to reverse themselves. Not that the answer isn't clear.

Or, they're waiting for the Vatican to say it for them, which is absolutely possible, as wimpy as some of those guys are.

In the meantime, we just keep praying.
